Commander Luke A. Brown

Commander Brown grew up in Wichita, KS and graduated from LeTourneau University in 2004 earning a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Science.  CDR Brown received his commission in 2005 through Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, FL.  He completed primary flight training at Vance AFB, OK and transferred to VT-21 at NAS Kingsville, TX to complete advanced flight training.  After earning his “Wings of Gold” on 31 August 2007, CDR Brown reported to VAQ-129 for initial training in the EA-6B Prowler.

CDR Brown’s first fleet tour began in August 2008 when he reported to the “Garudas” of VAQ-134.  During his JO tour, CDR Brown deployed twice to Bagram, Airfield Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.  While assigned to VAQ-134, the “Garudas” transitioned from an expeditionary squadron to a carrier squadron.  In 2011, the “Garudas” deployed to the CENTCOM AOR aboard the USS CARL VINSON (CVN-70) with Carrier Air Wing Seventeen.  Through a complete set of work-ups and one cruise, CDR Brown earned his Landing Signal Officer qualifications.

CDR Brown transferred to VAQ-129 “Vikings” in July 2011 for an instructor assignment.  During this tour, he transitioned from the EA-6B Prowler to the EA-18G Growler airframe.  While attached to VAQ-129, CDR Brown helped transition several squadrons to the Growler and participated in numerous carrier qualification detachments training new aircrew to operate safely in the carrier environment.  In July 2014, CDR Brown transferred to the “Patriots” of VAQ-140 for a Super JO tour where he prepared the “Patriots” for their first deployment in the Growler.

In September 2015, CDR Brown reported for his Department Head tour with the “Wizards” of VAQ-133.  While assigned to the “Wizards” he completed one WESTPAC deployment aboard USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN-74) in the INDO-PACOM AOR.  As a Department Head, CDR Brown served as the Administration, Operations, and Maintenance Officer.

After his Department Head tour, CDR Brown arrived at the Naval War College where he studied with the Halsey Bravo Group in the Advanced Research Program and earned a Master of Arts in Defense and Strategic Studies.  His most recent assignment was at U.S. Strategic Command, Offutt AFB, NE working as an action officer for the J-8 directorate.  While attached to USSTRATCOM, CDR Brown was selected to be the Aide-de- Camp for the Deputy Commander.

In October 2015, CDR Brown assumed the duty as the Executive Officer of VAQ-131.  CDR Brown assumed command of VAQ-131 in January 2023.

CDR Brown has accumulated over 2,300 flight hours to include 1,000 hours in both the EA-6B and EA-18G.  His awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Strike/Flight Air Medal (6 awards), Navy Commendation Medal (2 awards), Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 awards) and various service awards and ribbons.
