Command Master Chief, Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 136

26 October 2020 Master Chief Westgate, a native of Woodbridge, VA, enlisted in the United States Navy in November of 1998, and attended basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, IL.  Following completion of recruit training, he attended Aviation Structural Mechanic “A” school in Pensacola, FL.     
 
Upon graduation, he reported in April of 1999 to NAS Oceana AIMD SEAOPDET in Virginia Beach, VA. During this tour he deployed onboard the USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73) for the 2000 Mediterranean/Persian Gulf deployment and onboard the USS JOHN F. KENNEDY (CV 67) for the 2002 Persian Gulf deployment in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.  He transferred to the shore duty component of CSFWL DET AIMD in November of 2003 during which he was advanced to First Class Petty Officer.

In January 2007, he transferred to the HM-14 “Vanguard” at Naval Station Norfolk, VA during which he deployed onboard the USS PELELIU (LHA 5) in support of the 2007 Pacific Partnership, and to Pohang, Republic of Korea, with Detachment One in 2008 and 2010 for two six-month deployments.

After his tour with HM-14, he transferred to the VAW-115 “Liberty Bells” at NAF Atsugi, Japan in July of 2011. While assigned to the “Liberty Bells” he served on four deployments onboard the USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73). He was selected for advancement to Chief Petty Officer and his assignments included Line Division LCPO, and Maintenance Control Supervisor.

Following his tour with VAW-115, he reported to the VAQ-137 “Rooks” at NAS Whidbey Island, WA in January of 2015 and deployed onboard the USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71) in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE. During his tour with the Rooks he served as Line Division LCPO, Command Senior Enlisted Leader, Maintenance Control Supervisor, and Quality Assurance Supervisor, and was selected for advancement to Senior Chief Petty Officer.

In October of 2017, he reported for duty at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, IL for Recruit Division Commander “C” school. During his tour he trained two recruit divisions, served as Department LCPO and was selected for advancement to Master Chief Petty Officer.
 
He reported to his current assignment as Command Master Chief of Electronic Attack Squadron ONE THREE SIX (VAQ-136) in July of 2020.

Master Chief Westgate is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 201), Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Course (Class 214), is designated as a Master Training Specialist, and is entitled to wear the Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist and Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist insignias.  He has been awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards), as well as other personal, unit and service awards.
