Executive Officer, Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 37

27 October 2020 A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, CDR Mowry completed Recruit Training in December 1994 and joined the “Swamp Foxes” of HSL-44 in August 1996.  As a Naval Aircrewman and Rescue Swimmer, he completed four operational deployments and logged over 2000 hours in the SH-60B Seahawk.  CDR Mowry is a 2004 Seaman to Admiral-21 graduate from the University of South Carolina, with a Bachelor of Science in Marine Science. 
 
After earning his Naval Aviator wings in November 2006, CDR Mowry was assigned to the  “Grandmasters” of HSL-46 flying the SH-60B Seahawk.  He completed deployments on        USS DE WERT (FFG 45) in support of Counter-Narcoterrorism in the South Pacific, and      USS NORMANDY (CG 60) in support of Operations Unified Response, Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Enduring Freedom (OEF).  Ashore, he served as Quality Assurance Officer and Line Division Officer resulting in the 2010 Golden Wrench Award and Battle “E” Efficiency Award.
 
In December 2010, CDR Mowry joined the HSM-40 “Airwolves” as a Fleet Replacement Instructor Pilot.  After transitioning to the MH-60R, he served as Quality Assurance Officer and Instrument Ground School and Confined Area Landing/Low Level Program Manager, and was named the 2013 Instructor Pilot of the Year. 
 
CDR Mowry joined the HSM-73 “Battlecats,” in February 2014, completing a 10-month deployment in support of Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR) with Carrier Strike Group One on USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70) while serving as Quality Assurance Officer, Safety Officer, and Detachment Two Officer in Charge resulting in the 2015 Golden Wrench Award and Battle “E” Efficiency Award.
 
In May 2016, CDR Mowry reported to the “Easy Riders” of HSM-37 for his Department Head tour where he deployed as Detachment Five Officer in Charge on USS PREBLE (DDG 88) attached to Carrier Strike Group Nine in support of OIR.  Ashore, he served as the squadron Safety Officer and Maintenance Officer, earning the 2018 Battle “E” Efficiency Award.
 
CDR Mowry reported to NATO Allied Joint Forces Command, Brunssum, The Netherlands in September 2018 to serve as a J7 Action Officer for two different joint exercises focused on multi-domain operations and interoperability occurring along NATO’s northern border.  He selected for squadron command in March 2019, and reported back to HSM-37 to assume duties as Executive Officer in February 2022.
 
CDR Mowry has accumulated over 3,000 flight hours as a Naval Aviator.  His personal military decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards), and various unit and service awards.
 
He is married to Cary Mowry and has two daughters, Mia and Kyla.
