Commander Vincent Gomes

Commander Vincent Gomes hails from Gloucester, VA. He received his commission through the ROTC unit at the University of South Carolina in 2005, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering.

Following commissioning, CDR Gomes conducted flight training at NAS Pensacola, NAS Corpus Christi, and NAS Kingsville, Texas earning his Wings of Gold in August of 2007. Subsequently, he reported to the E-2/C-2 Fleet Replacement Squadron, VAW-120, for training and carrier qualification in the C-2 Greyhound.

CDR Gomes reported for his first sea tour to the "Rawhides" of VRC-40. Over three years, he completed three deployments with USS DWIGHT EISNEHOWER (CVN 69), USS HARRY S TRUMAN (CVN 75), and USS GEORGE HW BUSH (CVN 77) Carrier Strike Groups. During his deployments, he conducted carrier based fleet logistics in the 2nd, 5th, and 6th Fleets while participating in Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, Operation NEW DAWN and SAXON WARRIOR. Additionally, he flew Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief (HADR) sorties for Operation UNIFIED RESPONSE in 2010 supporting Haiti after an earthquake.

Upon completing his tour with VRC-40, CDR Gomes joined the “Rangers” of VT-28 in Corpus Christi, TX as a primary flight instructor. During his tour, he served as Ground Safety and Aviation Safety Officer, facilitating the safe and successful training of over two hundred student pilots readying them for the fleet.

In April 2015, CDR Gomes reported to the USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73) as a Catapult and Arresting Gear Officer. Onboard CVN-73, CDR Gomes led the V-3 division and was the “Top Cat” leading successful launch and recovery operations during two deployments and five carrier qualification periods.

CDR Gomes reported back to VRC-40's in September 2017 serving as Operations Officer and Officer in Charge Detachment THREE. Detachment THREE completed an “around the world” deployment with USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN 72) participating in numerous joint and multi-national exercises spanning 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, and 7th fleets.

In November 2019, CDR Gomes reported to USNORTHCOM Joint Task Force Civil Support in Ft. Eustis, VA to serve as the Executive Assistant to the Commanding General. JTF-CS lead multiple COVID-19 federal response efforts to include all military operations in FEMA Regions I, II, III, and IV, as well as the New York City response in March to June of 2020.

Following his transition to the V-22 Osprey with VMMT-204, CDR Gomes reported as Executive Officer to the “Titans” of VRM-30, the Navy’s first V-22 squadron.

Commander Gomes has logged over 2,700 flight hours in propeller, jet and tilt-rotor aircraft. His personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, three Navy Commendation Medals, and various personal, unit, campaign, and service awards.
