Captain Matthew “Brasso” Davin

A native of Rochester, NY, Captain Davin graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 2002, earning a Bachelor of Science in Naval Architecture.  He reported to NAS Pensacola, FL for flight training in August 2002, and was designated a Naval Aviator in April 2005 at NAS Meridian, MS.
Following initial training in the F/A-18E/F with VFA-122, CAPT Davin joined the “Black Knights” of VFA-154, based at NAS Lemoore, CA.  He made two deployments aboard USS JOHN C STENNIS (CVN 74), flying missions in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM and Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.

CAPT Davin then reported to the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School at NAS Patuxent River, MD as part of Class 137, graduating in June 2010.  CAPT Davin was assigned to VX-23, serving as Head Landing Signal Officer in the Carrier Suitability department while also earning a Master of Science in Systems Engineering from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School.

CAPT Davin then attended the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, RI, receiving a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies.

He returned to the fleet as a department head with the “Eagles” of VFA-115, based at NAF Atsugi, Japan.  He made five Western Pacific patrols aboard USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73) and USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76).
CAPT Davin then reported to U.S. Northern Command in Colorado Springs, CO, where he worked the maritime desk in the NORAD-USNORTHCOM Command Center.  He later served as Maritime Watch Instructor working from Cheyenne Mountain SFS.
He reported in March 2018 as Executive Officer of the VFA-151 “Vigilantes” based at NAS Lemoore, CA.  He became Commanding Officer in August 2019 and led the squadron through a pre-deployment training cycle as part of Carrier Air Wing NINE (CVW-9) with USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN 72)

He has served as Chief Operational Test Director for the VX-9 “Vampires” located at NAWS China Lake, CA since December 2021.

CAPT Davin has accumulated 2,800 flight hours in 22 aircraft with 560 carrier arrested landings, including 29 combat missions. His awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Strike/Flight Air Medal, and other personal, unit, service, and campaign awards.
