Commander Charles “Chuck” Yeargin

A native of Independence Missouri, Commander Charles “Chuck” Yeargin graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2007, earning a Bachelor of Science in Quantitative Economics. CDR Yeargin was designated a Naval Aviator in September of 2011 and reported to the VAW-120 “Greyhawks” for initial training in the C-2A Greyhound and designation as a Carrier Transport Pilot.

CDR Yeargin began his operational flying with the “Providers” of VRC-30. While a “Crusader” and a “Hustler” of DET III and DET I respectively, he made two deployments aboard USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) and USS CARL VINSON (CVN-70), participating in Operation ENDURING FREEDOM and Operation INHERENT RESOLVE.

Upon completion of his fleet tour, CDR Yeargin reported to Tigers of VT-9 in Meridian, for his production tour and began instructing in the T-45C “Goshawk” training Student Naval Aviators in their pursuit of their own “Wings of Gold”. While instructing, he served as NATOPS Officer and Standardization Officer ensuring a continuous supply of Winged Aviators to the Fleet.

In 2017, CDR Yeargin was selected to transition to the V-22 Osprey as one of the founding members of the VRM community and checked into ACCLOGWING DET 204 at MCAS New River, NC. Upon completion of the transition syllabus, he embedded within the USMC FRS (VMMT-204) to begin laying the building blocks of VRM.

CDR Yeargin left VMMT-204 to establish the Navy’s first CMV-22B squadron, the Titans of VRM-30, onboard NAS North Island in San Diego, CA as a plankowner Department Head. As a Titan, he embedded within the VMM squadrons of MAG-16 onboard MCAS Miramar to continue maturing in the V-22 and eventually deployed with the “Sea Elk” of VMM-166 to Al Jaber AB, Kuwait as the Executive Officer of the Aviation Combat Element, 13th MEU, Special-Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE. Returning from deployment in time for VRM-30’s Safe for Flight Certification, he filled the roles of Operations Officer and Training Officer while continuing to establish community standards and procedures.

Following his department head tour, CDR Yeargin reported to the Sunhawks of VRM-50. Serving as Executive Officer, Operations Officer, and Training Officer, he helped lead the squadron through their initial Safe for Flight Certification and Ready for Tasking Certification, inducting the first FRS students to be trained in the CMV-22B. He selected for squadron command in March 2021 and is scheduled to report to VRM-30 as Executive Officer in April 2023.

CDR Yeargin has accumulated over 2,000 flight hours in 5 different aircraft. His personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (2 awards), and Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 Awards) and various service awards and ribbons.
