Commander Dustin "SOBB" Boeding

Raised in Union City, Michigan, Commander Dustin “SOBB” Boeding graduated from Central Michigan University in 2002, earning a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology. In 2004 he was commissioned through the Officer Candidate School aboard NAS Pensacola. After earning his Naval Flight Officer Wings in April 2006, he reported to Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 106 in Virginia Beach, VA, for initial fleet training in the F/A-18F Super Hornet.

CDR Boeding began his operational flying in March 2007 with the “Fighting Checkmates” of VFA-211.  During that tour he deployed aboard USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65) in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM (OIF) and Operation ENDURING FREEDOM (OEF). 

In 2010, CDR Boeding graduated TOPGUN and reported to the “Diablos” of Strike Fighter Weapons School Atlantic (SFWSL) as a Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor (SFTI).  At SFWSL he served as the Strike Coordination and Reconnaissance (SCAR), and Special Operations Forces (SOF) Integration subject matter expert, as well as a Forward Air Controller (Airborne) Instructor. In November 2013, he returned to the fleet with the VFA-154 “Black Knights” as a Training Officer while deployed aboard USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) supporting operations in the 5th, 6th, and 7th Fleet areas of operations.

CDR Boeding returned to the VFA-211 “Fighting Checkmates” as a Department Head in December 2015.  While with the Checkmates, he deployed aboard USS HARRY S. TRUMAN (CVN 75) in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE (OIR), serving as Safety Officer, Operations Officer and Maintenance Officer. 

Following his department head tour, CDR Boeding served as an action officer for United States European Command (EUCOM), J-3 Directorate’s Current Actions Branch.  While on the EUCOM Staff, he acted as the Enabling Global Operations lead. 

CDR Boeding has accumulated over 2,200 flight hours and 280 carrier arrested landings. His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Strike/Flight Air Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal and other campaign and service ribbons.
