Command Master Chief Shon R. Nuanez

29 October 2020 Command Master Chief Shon R. Nuanez, a native of Greeley, Colo., enlisted in the United States Navy in December 1995.  Following completion of basic training at Recruit Training Command (RTC) Great Lakes, Ill., he reported to Naval Aviation Technical Training Center Meridian, Miss., where he attended Aviation Maintenance Administrationman (AZ) "A" school and graduated in April 1996.

Upon graduation of his initial technical training, he was assigned to Aviation Intermediate Maintenance Department located at Naval Air Station (NAS) Lemoore, Calif.   In June of 1998, he transferred to Strike Fighter Squadron One Three Seven (VFA-137) for his first sea duty tour also at NAS Lemoore.  While there, he completed two Western Pacific deployments onboard the USS CONSTELLATION (CV-64) and qualified as an Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist and Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist.  In October 2002, after the completion of AZ “C” school in Pensacola, Fla., he began his second sea duty tour with the Ironmen of Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron Three (VQ-3) stationed at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, Okla. 

His second shore duty tour was at Recruit Training Command (RTC) Great Lakes, Ill., where he served as a Recruit Division Commander (RDC) and RDC “C” school instructor from December 2005 to June 2009.  While at RTC he qualified as a Master Training Specialist and was selected for Chief Petty Officer in 2008.  In July 2009, he began his third sea duty tour with the Rangers of Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron Two (VQ-2) stationed at NAS Whidbey Island, Wash.  In July 2012, he transferred to the Yellow Jackets of Electronic Attack Squadron One Three Eight (VAQ-138) for his fourth sea duty assignment.  While in transit to VAQ-138, he was selected for Senior Chief Petty Officer and during his tour with the Yellow Jackets he qualified as an Aviation Maintenance Material Control Master Chief earning the 8300 NEC designation.  In March 2015, he transferred to the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit (CNATTU) at NAS Whidbey Island, Wash., where he performed his duties as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader (CSEL).  He was promoted to Master Chief Petty Officer in 2016 and selected for the Command Master Chief program in 2018.  His first CMC tour was with the Golden Swordsmen of Patrol and Reconnaissance Squadron Four Seven (VP-47) from April 2018 to February 2021.  He is a graduate of the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 193) and the CMC/COB school (Class 183).  Command Master Chief Nuanez is currently attached to Commander, Patrol and Reconnaissance Wing TEN.  

His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (seven awards), Good Conduct Medal (eight awards), Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and various unit and campaign awards.
