Captain Hidalgo

Captain Joseph A. Hidalgo is a native of San Jose, California.  He graduated from Saint Mary’s College of California with a Bachelor of Science in Economics in 1994.  He earned a Master of Science in Global Leadership from the University of San Diego in 2005.
 
In January 1998, he completed Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, FL and was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy. Captain Hidalgo’s qualifications and designations include: Professional Aviation Maintenance Officer, Navy Acquisition Professional, certified Level III in Production Quality Management, Level III in Life Cycle Logistics, Level II in Program Management, Level I in Engineering and Defense Acquisition Corps membership.
 
Following his Commission and selection to the Aerospace Maintenance Duty Officer community in 2000, Captain Hidalgo reported to the USS CONSTELLATION (CV 64), serving as the Airframes/Power Plants and Avionics/Armament Division Officer in the Aviation Intermediate Maintenance Department.
 
In August 2003, he transferred to Naval Air Technical Data and Engineering Command (NATEC) and served as the Product Support Lead for all Common and Peculiar Support Equipment.  In February 2006, he joined Commander, Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Four (HS 4) and served as the Assistant Maintenance Officer and Maintenance Material Control Officer.  Throughout his time with HS 4, he deployed to the Arabian Sea in direct support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM; supporting the Carrier Air Wing aboard the USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76).
 
In May 2008, Captain Hidalgo served as the Assistant Maintenance Officer, Readiness Officer, and Contracting Officer in Commander, Helicopter Sea Combat Wing, U.S Pacific Fleet.  In December 2011, he transferred to USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) serving as the Maintenance Material Control Officer and Assistant Maintenance Officer in the Aviation Intermediate Maintenance Department.  In November 2011, he served at Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR), Program Manager AIR (PMA-273) as the Assistant Program Management for Logistics (APML) in support of Naval Undergraduate Flight Training Systems (T-45) and as the AIR-6.6 Operations Officer for Logistics.  In June 2016, he transferred to USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71) and served as the Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department Officer.  In December 2020, he successfully completed a Bonus Command tour at Fleet Readiness Center Mid-Atlantic (FRCMA) as the Production Officer.
 
Captain Hidalgo joined the OPNAV Air Warfare Directorate Staff in November 2020 as the Deputy for the Logistics & Readiness Branch.  He leads the management of $20B in annual operations, maintenance, procurement, and RDT&E appropriations for twenty (20) ACAT level Naval Aviation logistics & maintenance support, common avionics, air crew systems, and readiness programs. Captain Hidalgo Reported to FRC West as Executive Officer in May of 2022.
 
Captain Hidalgo’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Navy Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy Achievement Medal (two awards), and various other unit and campaign awards. 
 
In 2017, Captain Hidalgo was recognized as USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT’s Navy and Marine Association Leadership Award winner.
