A native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Commander Zeuner graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. Shortly after receiving his degree, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a Machinist Mate (Nuclear). In 2003, he completed Nuclear Field “A” School and Nuclear Power School in Charleston, South Carolina, followed by training on the S8G prototype reactor plant at Nuclear Power Training Unit in Ballston Spa, New York. Upon final qualification in 2004, he was selected to remain on staff at NPTU as a first tour instructor.
CDR Zeuner was commissioned through Officer Candidate School in August 2005 and reported to NAS Pensacola, Florida for initial flight training. He earned his Naval Flight Officer Wings in December 2007. In February 2008, CDR Zeuner reported to the VAQ-129 “Vikings” for initial fleet training as an EA-6B Electronic Countermeasures Officer, where he graduated as the Fleet Replacement Electronic Countermeasures Officer of the Year for 2009.
In April 2009, CDR Zeuner began his first operational flying tour with the “Garudas” of VAQ-134. He completed two deployments with the squadron in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and New Dawn, including a 2009 deployment to Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan and a 2010-2011 cruise with Carrier Air Wing Seventeen aboard USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70).
CDR Zeuner returned to VAQ-129 as an instructor in February 2012, where he completed a transition syllabus for the EA-18G Growler. He departed the “Vikings” in May 2015 and reported to Carrier Air Wing Nine as the staff Electronic Warfare Officer, deploying with “Team Shogun” to the Indo-Pacific region in 2016 aboard USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74).
In February 2017, CDR Zeuner reported to the “Zappers” of VAQ-130 as a Department Head. While assigned to VAQ-130, CDR Zeuner was selected as the Electronic Attack Wing’s recipient of the 2018 Naval Air Forces Department Head Leadership Award.
Following his department head tour, CDR Zeuner served as the VAQ community’s officer detailer at Navy Personnel Command in Millington, Tennessee. He selected for squadron command in March 2020 and reported to the VAQ-133 “Wizards” as Executive Officer in November 2021, where he completed a 2022 deployment with Carrier Air Wing Nine aboard USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72).
CDR Zeuner’s personal decorations include the Air Medal (five awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), and various campaign, unit, and individual awards.
