Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 134 “Garudas”

Mission

The primary mission  of VAQ-134 is to conduct sustained airborne tactical electronic combat. As an expeditionary squadron, the GARUDAS will deploy worldwide to support U.S. Air Force expeditionary wings, allied/coalition task forces, Marine aircraft groups, and U.S. Navy strike groups.

About Us

VAQ-134 was originally commissioned on 7 June 1969 at NAS Alameda, California as the GARUDAS.  Based on an old Hindu myth, the Garuda is the bird that took Wisnu, the God of War, wherever necessary in his quest to protect God's creation from those evil forces that sought to upset and destroy it.

In 2016, the GARUDAS transitioned to the E/A-18G Growler and entered workups to deploy to the Pacific as an expeditionary squadron.

The EA-18G Growler aircraft we fly represents the most advanced technology in airborne Electronic Attack and stands as the Navy’s first line of defense in hostile environments.

A variant of the F/A-18F Super Hornet Block II, the EA-18G Growler combines the capability of the combat-proven Super Hornet with the latest AEA avionics suite evolved from the Improved Capability III (ICAP III) system. The EA-18G’s vast array of sensors and weapons provides the warfighter with a lethal and survivable weapon system to counter current and emerging threats.
