A native of Arlington, Virginia, Commander Jones graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2004.  He reported to NAS Pensacola, FL for flight training in June 2004 and earned his Naval Aviator Wings in December 2006. In January 2007, he reported to the VAQ 129 “Vikings” for initial fleet training in the EA-6B.
 
In October 2007 CDR Jones joined the “Garudas” of VAQ 134 where he completed two deployments to Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom prior to the squadron’s return to carrier operations with Carrier Airwing 17 on board the USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70). During this tour he completed the Aviation Safety Officer course and Electronic Attack Weapons School Prowler Tactics Instructor course.

In October 2010 CDR Jones transitioned from the EA-6B to the EA-18G and reported for duty at the Electronic Attack Weapons School where he served as a Growler Tactics Instructor, communications electronic attack subject matter expert, and advanced tactics project officer. While assigned to the Weapons School, he also integrated airborne electronic attack capabilities into contingency plans for two combatant commands and was awarded the 2013 Airborne Electronic Attack Integration Award.

CDR Jones reported to the “Yellow Jackets” of VAQ 138 in August 2013 and deployed to Misawa Japan as the squadron training officer. While deployed he participated in multiple joint and combined operations in the Pacific Theater. CDR Jones received the Electronic Attack Wing Growler Training Officer of the Year award for 2014.

In October 2015 CDR Jones joined the “Zappers” of VAQ 130 as a department head where he served as the safety, maintenance, and operations officers. During this tour, he deployed with Carrier Airwing 3 on board USS DWIGHT D EISENHOWER (CVN 69) in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. While onboard VAQ 130, CDR Jones qualified as a Carrier Airwing 3 Strike Lead and CVN CDO Underway.

Following his department head tour, CDR Jones reported to US Cyber Command in July 2018 where he served as a foreign partner integration lead and action officer in the J-5 Directorate. In 2019 he was selected to represent the Commander, US Cyber Command, on the Secretary of Defense Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations Cross-Functional Team. Representing US Cyber Command, he drafted and supported the approval of the 2020 Department of Defense Electromagnetic Spectrum Superiority Strategy and provided cyberspace operations and electronic warfare subject matter support to the Vice Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Electronic Warfare Executive Committee. In March 2019 CDR Jones selected for operational command and reported to the “Cougars” of VAQ 139 in July 2021.

CDR Jones has accumulated over 3,000 flight hours, including 239 combat missions and more than 1,000 hours of combat flight time in the EA-6B and EA-18G. His awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Strike/Flight Air Medal (10 awards), Navy Commendation Medal (3 awards), Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Airforce Achievement Medal and various service awards and ribbons.
