A native of Queens, New York Commander Joyce graduated from Fordham University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.  He was commissioned through the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps and reported to Naval Air Station Pensacola, FL for flight training in September 2007.  He earned his Naval Aviator “Wings of Gold” in September 2009.  Commander Joyce reported to Naval Station Mayport, FL to the HSL-40 “Airwolves” for initial fleet training as an SH-60B Pilot and Airborne Tactical Officer (ATO).
 
Commander Joyce reported to the “Scorpions” of HSL-49 at Naval Air Station North Island, CA and began his operational flying in July 2010.  While assigned to HSL-49, he deployed to the FOURTH, FIFTH, and SEVENTH Fleets aboard the USS MCCLUSKY (FFG 41), USS GRIDLEY (DDG 101) and USS STOCKDALE (DDG 106), and was the 2013 Commander, Helicopter Maritime Strike Wing Pacific Pilot of the Year.
 
Commander Joyce reported back to the “Airwolves” of HSM-40 in December 2013 as an MH-60R Fleet Replacement Squadron Instructor Pilot.  While at HSM-40, he graduated from the Seahawk Weapons and Tactics Instructor course at Naval Air Station Fallon, NV and the Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron ONE (MAWTS-1) Night Imaging Threat Evaluation (NITE) Lab instructor course at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, AZ.  He served as the Squadron Seahawk Weapons and Tactics Instructor, the Tactics Phase Officer, Night Systems Program Manager, and the Naval Station Mayport NITE Lab Program Manager.
 
In December 2016 he reported to Naval Air Station Oceana, VA as the Carrier Air Wing SEVEN (CVW-7) “Freedom Fighters” Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer and Rotary Wing Operations Officer.  He graduated from Quinnipiac University with a Master of Business Administration degree, served as the lead planner for joint aviation operations in support of Fleet Week New York 2017, and embarked the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN 72) as the CVW-7 Officer-in-Charge for Defense Support of Civil Authority operations.
 
In December 2017, he joined the “Proud Warriors” of HSM-72 at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, FL for his Department Head tour.  He deployed to the FIFTH and SIXTH Fleets aboard the USS HARRY S. TRUMAN (CVN 75) and USS BULKELEY (DDG 84) in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE (OIR), and served as the Training Officer, Detachment TWO Officer-in-Charge, the Safety Department Head, and Operations Officer.  He was selected as the 2019 Carrier Air Wing ONE (CVW-1) Department Head of the Year and HSM-72 Officer of the Year.
 
In December 2020, he reported to the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) and was assigned to the J33 Current Operations Directorate where he served as the Europe and Africa Global Support Group Division Chief.
 
His awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various unit commendations, service and campaign awards.  He and his wife Jennifer have three boys, Jesse, Liam and Colin.
