Captain Britton Windeler is a native of Marietta, Ohio and graduated from Tufts University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science in Geology. He also holds a Master of Environmental Science from Miami University and a Master of Business Administration from Oklahoma State University. He was designated a Naval Flight Officer in 2001 upon completion of flight training at Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola, FL and Randolph Air Force Base (AFB), Texas.

His sea duty assignments include tours with the "Ironmen" of Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron Three (VQ) 3, Tinker AFB, Oklahoma as a junior officer qualifying as an E-6B Airborne Communications Officer Instructor and Mission Commander Evaluator; Assistant Air Operations Officer at USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), deploying in support of Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom; department head with the "Shadows" of VQ-4; and as Executive Officer and Commanding Officer of VQ-3.

Windeler's shore duty assignments include instructor at Miami University NROTC, responsible for training future Navy and Marine Corps officers; department head with the "Roughnecks" of VQ-7; and branch chief at United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) where he served in the J6 directorate as functional manager of the E-4B and E-6B aircraft.

He most recently reported to USSTRATCOM in 2019, serving as J36 Deputy Division Chief, J3 Special Projects Officer, and Looking Glass Mission Commander. He assumed the role of J36 Division Chief upon promotion to Captain in January of 2020, where he was responsible for all USSTRATCOM command center functions.
 
He assumed duties as Deputy Commodore, Strategic Communications Wing (SCW) 1 and Task Group (TG) 114.2 in August of 2022.

Windeler has amassed more than 3,500 flight-hours in the T-34C, T-43A, and E-6B aircraft. Personal decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (five awards), Navy Achievement Medal, and other service and unit awards.
