Command Master Chief Randy Swanson enlisted in the Navy in February 1996 and completed basic training at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, Illinois and Dental Technician “A” School in San Diego, California. He reported to his first command, USS Belleau Wood (LHA 3) forward deployed in Sasebo, Japan.        
Upon completion of his initial sea tour, he reported to Naval Dental Center North East, Newport, Rhode Island and served as the Dental Fleet Liaison from 2000-2001.  In November 2001, he reported to USS John F. Kennedy (CV 67) in Mayport, Florida, assigned as Dental Department Assistant Leading Petty Officer.  In June 2004 he reported to Naval School of Health Sciences, San Diego, California to complete Surface Force Independent Duty Corpsman (IDC) “C” School.  Upon graduation he was selected to complete a pilot program to directly convert to Submarine Independent Duty Corpsman upon completion of Basic Submarine School and Submarine Alternative IDC School at Naval Undersea Medical Institute in Groton, Connecticut.  In January 2007 he reported to USS Charlotte (SSN 766), Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, where he served as the Independent Duty Corpsman.  During his tour, he qualified for Submarines and was selected as the 2009 Bureau of Medicine and Surgery Submarine Independent Duty Corpsman of the Year.  He was advanced to Chief Petty Officer in 2009.  In July 2010 he reported to Naval Submarine Support Command, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and served as the ISIC Medical Department Leading Chief Petty Officer (LCPO) and was selected to advance to Senior Chief in 2012.
 
Master Chief Swanson reported onboard USS Frank Cable (AS 40) forward deployed to Guam in February 2014.  While onboard he served as the Health Services Department LCPO and was advanced to Master Chief Petty Officer in May 2015.  In January 2017 he reported to Naval Branch Health Clinic Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and served as the clinic Senior Enlisted Leader.  In January 2018, he transferred to Naval Health Clinic New England, Newport, Rhode Island, where he served as the Command Master Chief of the New England medical clinics. In 2019 he transferred to serve as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader of Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and the Command Master Chief of Navy Medicine Readiness & Training Command, in Bethesda, Maryland. In August 2021 he reported onboard USS LAKE ERIE(CG 70) homeported in San Diego, California to serve as Command Master Chief. In December 2022 he reported onboard USS GEORGE WASHINTON (CVN-73) and is currently assigned as Command Master Chief.

Master Chief Swanson is a graduate of Senior Enlisted Academy Class 217, Command Master Chief Course, and has his Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration. His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (six awards), Army Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal (seven awards) and other various unit and service campaign awards.
