TOCRON-10 Holds Change of Command

WHIDBEY ISLAND, Wash. - The “Kraken” of Tactical Operations Control Squadron (TOCRON) 10 held their second-ever change of command ceremony since becoming a command in June 2020 on September 15. During the ceremony, Cmdr. Karl N. Murray was relieved by Cmdr. Grant H. Regelin. Having served a successful tour while standing up TOCRON 10, Murray will go on to serve on the operations staff of Carrier Strike Group (CSG) One. Cmdr. Michael Melendez relieved Regelin as the executive officer of the squadron.

The investigation into the F-35C Lightning II crash that occurred onboard Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) on Jan. 24, 2022, is complete and was released on Feb. 16, 2023. The cause of the mishap was found to be pilot error; however, the error was not a result of reckless actions or malicious intent. The pilot was current on all qualifications and designations and the aircraft was in compliance with all periodic maintenance and service inspections.

Update 2 on USS Abraham Lincoln Potable Water

On October 20, 2022, personnel from Puget Sound Naval Shipyard (PSNS) and USS Abraham Lincoln completed the inspection of the affected potable water tanks. The inspection concluded that bilge water entered one of the potable water tanks through a hole that was found in the tank’s air vent line, causing the cloudy appearance and odor in the ship’s potable water.

On Sept. 21, 2022, Sailors aboard aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72), identified an odor and cloudy appearance in the ship's potable water while operating off the coast of Southern California. Consistent access to clean, safe water is a priority that all Sailors take extremely seriously and the crew immediately took action to shift water tanks. Engineering and medical personnel conducted a thorough inspection of the potable water supply from various locations throughout the ship and all potable water tanks were tested onboard. On Sept. 22, tests conducted on board the ship indicated that E. coli bacteria was present in three of 26 potable water tanks. Those tanks were isolated and secured from the potable water system and free bottled water was made available to the crew.
