A native of South Burlington, Vermont, Commander Maynes graduated from Union College in 2006, earning a Bachelor of Arts in US History.  CDR Maynes was commissioned through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Program and reported to NAS Pensacola, FL for flight training in July 2006. He earned his Naval Flight Officer Wings in March 2007. He then reported to the VAQ 129 “Vikings” for initial fleet training as an EA-6B Electronic Countermeasures Officer.
 
CDR Maynes began his operational flying in May 2009 with the World Famous “Rooks” of VAQ 137.  While a “Rook”, he made two deployments aboard USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65), participating in Operation NEW DAWN, and Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
 
CDR Maynes reported back to VAQ 129 in November 2012 as an instructor, training the future of the VAQ community.  While at VAQ 129 he completed the transition from the EA-6B to the EA-18G Growler as an Electronic Warfare Officer.  Following his instructor tour he was selected to be the Electronic Warfare representative on CVW-17 staff completing work-ups aboard USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN-71).
 
CDR Maynes returned to the fleet as a Department Head with VAQ-134, the “Garudas,” in October 2017.  While with the “Garudas,” he completed two expeditionary deployments, serving as both the Operations Officer and Maintenance Officer.  His first deployment was supporting PACOM strategic objectives, operating out of Misawa AB, Japan, Osan AB, ROK, and Andersen AFB, Guam.  His second expeditionary deployment was to Al Udeid AB supporting CENTCOM objectives and Operation INHERENT RESOLVE.
  
Following his Department Head tour, CDR Maynes returned to VAQ 129 to serve as the Training Officer for the Fleet Replacement Squadron.  While serving as the Training Officer, CDR Maynes ensured student training production requirements were met despite the impacts of COVID 19 mitigations.  He reported to VAQ-137 as Executive Officer in September 2021.
 
CDR Maynes has accumulated over 2,200 flight hours in six aircraft and has over 400 carrier arrested landings. His awards include the Strike/Flight Air Medal (2 awards), Navy Commendation Medal (4 awards), and Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 awards) and various service awards and ribbons.
