Commander Timothy Warburton

A native of Canandaigua, New York, Commander Warburton graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 2006, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Finance. CDR Warburton was commissioned through Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, FL in September of 2006 and subsequently reported for flight training. He earned his Naval Flight Officer Wings in August of 2008. CDR Warburton then reported to VAQ 129 “Vikings” for initial fleet training as an EA-6B Electronic Countermeasures Officer at NAS Whidbey Island.
CDR Warburton began his operational flying in December of 2009 with the “Patriots” of VAQ 140.  While attached to the “Patriots”, he made three deployments aboard USS DWIGHT D EISENHOWER (CVN 69), supporting Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. Additionally, he conducted an expeditionary deployment with the “Patriots” to Aviano Air Base, Italy in support of Operation UNIFIED PROTECTOR. During his tour with VAQ 140, CDR Warburton served as the Public Affairs Officer, Assistant Tactics Officer, Aircraft Division Officer, and Assistant Operations Officer.
CDR Warburton reported back to VAQ 129 “Vikings” in July of 2013 for the transition from the EA-6B Prowler to EA-18G Growler. Following the transition, he remained with the “Vikings” as an instructor, training future aviators in the VAQ community. While at VAQ 129 CDR Warburton served as Schedules Officer, Category Three and Four Syllabus Coordinator, and Student Control Officer.
Following his instructor tour, CDR Warburton was selected to be the Electronic Warfare representative for CVW-3 “Battle Axe”. While attached to team “Battle Axe” he made the 2016 deployment, once again aboard the USS DWIGHT D EISENHOWER (CVN 69) in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.
In March of 2018, CDR Warburton returned to the fleet as a Department Head in VAQ 131, “Lancers”.  While with the “Lancers”, he served as the Administration, Maintenance, and Operations Officer and led VAQ 131 through a transition from a carrier air wing-based squadron to an expeditionary squadron. He then deployed with the “Lancers” in 2020 to Misawa Air Base, Japan as part of the Global Force Management allocation process.
Following his department head tour, CDR Warburton reported to the U.S Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island earning a Master of Arts Degree in Defense and Strategic Studies. CDR Warburton was selected for squadron command in March of 2021.
CDR Warburton has accumulated over 2,300 flight hours and 298 carrier arrested landings, including 79 combat missions. His awards include the Strike/Flight Air Medal (3 awards), Navy Commendation Medal (2 awards), Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 awards), and various campaign and service awards and ribbons. He is married to Martha Barron Warburton of Yarmouth, ME, and they have two children Margaux and Brendan.
