Commander Marvin Wynn

Commanding Officer, Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 14

26 October 2020 A native of Denton, Texas, Commander Marvin Wynn graduated from Park University in 2002, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting. CDR Wynn was commissioned through Officer Candidate School and reported to NAS Pensacola, FL for flight training in May of 2004. He earned his Naval Aviator Wings in June 2006. In August 2006, CDR Wynn reported to the VFA-122 “Flying Eagles” for initial fleet training as an F/A-18E/F fleet replacement pilot. 

CDR Wynn began his operational flying in May 2007 with the “Redcocks” of VFA-22.  During this tour, he made two deployments aboard USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76) participating in Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.  During this tour CDR Wynn served as Legal Officer, Aircraft Division Officer, Forward Air Controller (Airborne), and Air to Air Weapons Training Officer.

CDR Wynn reported to the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center (NSAWC) in April 2010 at NAS Fallon, NV for training as a Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor.  After graduating from TOPGUN in July 2010, he reported as a Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor at Strike Fighter Weapons School Pacific (SFWSP).  While at SFWSP he served as FAC(A) Shop lead and Air to Surface Fundamentals subject matter expert.

CDR Wynn returned to the fleet as the Pilot Training Officer for VFA-102, the “Diamondbacks”.  While with the Diamondbacks, he completed four patrols of the Seventh Fleet AOR aboard USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73).

In November 2014, CDR Wynn reported to the “Blue Diamonds” of VFA-146 as a Department Head.  While attached to the Blue Diamonds, he served as the Admin Officer, Safety Officer, Maintenance Officer, and Operations Officer.  Additionally, he executed one combat deployment aboard USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE.  As a result of his efforts, CDR Wynn was recognized as the “LCDR Michael G. Hoff Attack Aviator of the Year” for Commander Strike Fighter Wing Pacific.

Following his department head tour, CDR Wynn served as the Operations Officer and Executive Officer of the “Flying Eagles” of VFA-122.  He selected for squadron command in March 2018 and reported to VFA-14 as Executive Officer in March 2021.  CDR Wynn became the 91st Commanding Officer of VFA-14 in April 2022.

CDR Wynn has accumulated over 2,700 flight hours in 3 aircraft, over 500 carrier arrested landings, and has flown 35 combat missions. His awards include the Strike/Flight Air Medal (2 awards), Navy Commendation Medal (3 awards), and Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal and various campaign and unit awards.
