Commander Matthew Warshaw

A native of Metairie, Louisiana, Commander Warshaw graduated from the United States Naval Academy in May 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in History. After commissioning, he attended graduate school at the University of Oxford, England, earning a Master of Studies in Global and Imperial History. Designated as a Naval Aviator in April 2011, he reported to the “Gladiators” of VFA-106 for initial fleet training in the FA-18E Super Hornet.

His operational assignments include tours with the “Gunslingers” of VFA-105 and, as part of Forward Deployed Naval Forces Japan, the “Eagles” of VFA-115 and the “Dambusters” of VFA-195. He has completed multiple deployments aboard USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75), USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), and USS George Washington (CVN 73), supporting Operations Enduring Freedom and Freedom’s Sentinel in Afghanistan, as well as Commander, U.S. Seventh Fleet tasking in the Indo-Pacific area of responsibility.

In December 2021, he reported to the Naval Aviation Warfighting Development Center (NAWDC), helping stand up the NAWDC Integrated Warfare Department (DAUNTLESS) in support of Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet and U.S. Indo-Pacific Command joint warfighting initiatives. During this time, he also qualified in the F-16A Fighting Falcon, served as an Air Wing Fallon overall instructor, and graduated from the U.S. Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN) with the designation of Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor.

He has accumulated over 4,200 flight hours in various tactical jet aircraft and over 700 carrier arrested landings in the FA-18E Super Hornet. His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Strike/Flight Air Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal (three awards), in addition to various individual, campaign, and unit awards.

Commander Warshaw reported to Strike Fighter Squadron TWO SEVEN in August 2024.
