26 October 2020 A native of Titusville, FL, Commander Minzes graduated from the University of Central Florida in 2001, earning a Bachelor of Science in Finance. CDR Minzes was commissioned through the Navy Officer Candidate School and reported to NAS Corpus Christi, TX for flight training in August 2002. He earned his Naval Aviator wings in November 2004. In December 2004, CDR Minzes reported to the VFA-125 “Rough Raiders” for initial fleet training in the FA-18C.

CDR Minzes began his operational flying in December 2005 with the “Valions” of VFA-15. While a “Valion”, he made two deployments aboard USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71), participating in Operation IRAQI FREEDOM and Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

CDR Minzes reported to VMFAT-101 in San Diego, CA in April 2009 as an Instructor Pilot and Landing Signal Officer. CDR Minzes reported to CVW-1 as Air Wing Landing Signal Officer in November 2011 and made the final deployment aboard USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65) in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM in 2012.

CDR Minzes returned to the fleet in January 2013 as a Department Head in VFA-25, the “Fist of the Fleet”. While with the Fisties, he served as Safety, Maintenance, and Operations Officer.

CDR Minzes reported to the Pentagon in December 2015 as Action Officer, Joint Staff, J-2 Directorate. While on the Joint Staff, he managed targeting portfolios for the AFRICOM, CENTCOM, and EUCOM areas of responsibility. Following his joint tour, CDR Minzes attended the Naval War College in Newport, RI and earned a M.A. in Defense and Security Studies.

CDR Minzes has accumulated over 2,500 flight hours and over 400 carrier arrested landings. His personal awards are a testament to the dedication and teamwork of his colleagues throughout his career in Naval Aviation.
