Commander Mark A. Muncy

A native of Middletown, RI, CDR Muncy Commissioned as an Ensign upon graduation from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy with a BS in Marine Transportation and a USCG License as a Third Mate Unlimited Tonnage. He completed Naval Flight Officer training and reported to VAW-120 for initial E-2C Hawkeye training, earning his “Wings of Gold” in September 2008.

CDR Muncy reported to the “Bluetails” of VAW-121, NS Norfolk, VA, in March 2009. He completed two deployments with Carrier Air Wing SEVEN aboard the USS EISENHOWER (CVN 69) in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

In September 2012, he reported to the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center, NAS Fallon, NV, where he qualified as a Hawkeye Weapons and Tactics Instructor. While assigned to the Carrier Airborne Early Warning Weapons School, he served as the WTI Curriculum Manager and qualified as an Air Wing and Strike Fighter Advanced Readiness Program (SFARP) Hawkeye instructor.

CDR Muncy reported to the “Screwtops” of VAW-123, NS Norfolk, VA, in 2015, where he served as the Training Officer. During his tour, he deployed aboard the USS EISENHOWER (CVN 69) in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE.

In October 2017, CDR Muncy reported to the VAW-116 “Sun Kings” where he served as the Quality Assurance Officer, Administrative Officer, Safety Officer, and Maintenance Officer. During this tour, he deployed with Carrier Air Wing SEVENTEEN aboard USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71) in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE.

CDR Muncy reported to the Joint Staff J-5, Deputy Directorate for Joint Strategic Planning (DD JSP) at the Pentagon in November 2019. He served as a mission planner in the Joint Operational War Plans Division where he led a team in the overall assessment and restructure of 10,366 global tasks to Combatant Commands and was then selected to serve as the Executive Assistant to DD JSP.

CDR Muncy has logged over 1,900 flight hours. His personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (four awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and various unit, campaign, and service awards. CDR Muncy resides with his wife, Jessica, in Virginia Beach.
