27 October 2020 Command Master Chief Nicholas Prebeg, a native of Mountain Iron, MN, graduated from Mountain Iron-Buhl High School, Class of 1997. He enlisted in the United States Navy through the Delayed Entry Program and reported to Recruit Training Command Great Lakes in August 1997.
Master Chief Prebeg attended Cryptologic Technician (Collection) “A” School in Pensacola, FL. In June 1998, he reported to Naval Security Group Activity Rota, Spain and completed his first deployment on USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN 69). In June 2002, he reported to Navy Recruiting District Minneapolis and served as Recruiter-in-Charge of Navy Recruiting Station Hibbing. He was advanced to First Class Petty Officer through the Recruiter Excellence Incentive Program. In June 2005, he reported to Navy Information Operations Command Georgia and served as an Airborne Cryptologic Direct Support Element Operator on four detachments in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. He was advanced to Chief Petty Officer in September 2008.

In August 2009, Master Chief Prebeg reported to Naval Special Warfare Support Activity ONE in Coronado, CA and served as a Tactical Electronic Warfare (TAC-EW) Operator and Detachment Chief on multiple combat deployments with various SEAL teams, Army Ranger battalions, and Joint Special Operations units throughout Afghanistan and the Arabian Peninsula. He subsequently served as the Special Reconnaissance Team ONE Tactical Information Operations Department Leading Chief Petty Officer and Command Senior Enlisted Advisor. He was advanced to Master Chief Petty Officer in April 2015.

Master Chief Prebeg was selected into the Command Master Chief program in February 2016. He was later named to the Dean’s List for academic excellence and awarded Honor Graduate of Senior Enlisted Academy Class 194. In June 2016, he reported as the Command Master Chief of USS CHAFEE (DDG 90) in Pearl Harbor, HI and led his crew though a successful FOURTH and SIXTH Fleet deployment. In May 2019, he reported as the Command Master Chief of Special Projects Patrol Squadron TWO (VPU-2) and led his team through a seamless P-3 sundown and Permanent Duty Station Change from Kaneohe Bay, HI to Jacksonville, FL. In September 2020, he assumed the duties of Command Master Chief, Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron EIGHT (HSC-8), the World Famous "Eightballers."

Master Chief Prebeg’s decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (two awards), Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (two Strike/Flight awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards), Combat Action Ribbon, and various unit and campaign awards. His designations include Surface Warfare Specialist, Information Warfare Specialist, Aviation Warfare Specialist, Expeditionary Warfare Specialist, Naval Aircrew Warfare Specialist, and Navy and Marine Corps Parachutist.
