Command Master Chief Nguyen enlisted in the United States Navy in April 1995. Following the completion of basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, IL.  He completed his Electrician Mates “A” school with Distinguished Graduation at Naval Training Command Great Lakes, IL.


His sea duties and oversea tours include Torpedo Weapon Retriever Division, Pearl Harbor, Hi., USS HOPPER (DDG 70), USS ARDENT (MCM 12), USS GREEN BAY (LPD 20), USS DEFENDER (MCM 2), USS CHIEF (MCM 14), and USNS MIGUEL KEITH (T-ESB 5).  During Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, he served in an Individual Augmentee tour assigned to Navy Provisional Detainee Battalion II at Camp Bucca, Iraq.


His shore-duty assignments include NRD PORTLAND, as production recruiter at NRS West Valley, UT., and Southwest Regional Maintenance Center, San Diego, CA.

In February 2017, he was selected as Command Senior Chief and completed the Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Course (Class 19020).


He is currently serving as Command Master Chief of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron FIVE ONE (HSM 51) in Atsugi, Japan.


Master Chief Nguyen’s decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (seven awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three awards), and various campaign and unit awards.
