28 October 2020 Command Master Chief John A. Beekman is a native of Savannah, Georgia. He graduated from Effingham County High school and reported to Basic Training Great Lakes in July 2002. Upon completion of Basic Training in Great Lakes, Illinois, he was assigned to the Basic Seamanship Apprentice School.

Master Chief Beekman reported to his first command, USS DOYLE (FFG-39), homeported in Mayport, Florida, where he served from 2002-2007. While onboard USS DOYLE, he completed three deployments in support of counter-drug operations in the Mediterranean, Caribbean and the horn of Africa. As an E-5, he was nominated and selected for the Surface Navy Associations Arleigh Burke Award for Surface Warfare Operational excellence.

In February 2008, he transferred to Navy Recruiting School in Pensacola, Florida. Upon completion, he reported to the Navy Recruiting District-Jacksonville, Florida and served as Recruiter in Charge of Navy Recruiting Station-Statesboro, Georgia until 2011. He was advanced to Chief Petty Officer in August 2008 and his station was awarded Small Station of the Year in 2010.

In May 2011, he reported to USS JOHN PAUL JONES (DDG-53), homeported in San Diego, CA as the Operations Department Leading Chief Petty Officer. Onboard John Paul Jones, he completed a deployment to FIFTH and SEVENTH FLEET. In 2012, Master Chief Beekman was selected for Senior Chief Petty Officer and was awarded the Surface Navy Association’s George Sirian Meritorious Service Award for outstanding Chief Petty Officer Leadership. February 2013, he was selected for the Command Senior Chief program.

In May 2015, while completing the CMC/COB course, he was selected for Master Chief Petty Officer. Following graduation, CMDCM Beekman reported as the dual-hatted Command Master Chief of United States Military Entrance Processing Commands 7th Battalion and San Diego Military Entrance Processing Command (MEPS).

In September 2017, he reported to USS DECATUR (DDG-73), homeported in San Diego, CA as the Command Master Chief and completed a deployment in FIFTH and SEVENTH FLEET. In July 2020, he reported onboard Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron SEVEN ONE (HSM-71) as the RAPTOR Command Master Chief.
Master Chief Beekman is a graduate of the United States Navy’s Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 187).

His military decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (7), and various other unit and service medals.
