03 November 2020 Commander Megan Donnelly was born and raised in Waukegan, Illinois. She graduated with Merit from the United States Naval Academy in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering. She also holds a Master of Science in Systems Engineering from Southern Methodist University.
After completing flight training in August 2004, CDR Donnelly reported to VP-26 in Brunswick, Maine. As a “Trident”, she served as Aviation Safety Officer and assistant Tactics Department Head. She earned designations as a Mission Commander and P-3C Instructor Pilot and completed two deployments to Europe and the Middle East in support of IRAQI and ENDURING FREEDOM.
In October 2008, she reported to the “Stingrays” of VT-35 in Corpus Christi, Texas. As a TC-12 Instructor Pilot, she taught future Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force Aviators and served as Safety Officer, Contact Stage Manager, and Instructor Under Training Program Manager.
CDR Donnelly reported to USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) in Everett, Washington as Assistant Strike Operations Officer in February 2011. She qualified as Officer of the Deck (OOD) Underway and deployed to the FIFTH, SIXTH, and SEVENTH Fleets during an around-the-world deployment.  Following the Lincoln’s homeport change to Norfolk, Virginia, Megan was selected for the Career Intermission Pilot Program in November 2012.
Returning to active duty in May 2014, CDR Donnelly reported to Whidbey Island, Washington and the “Fighting Marlins” of VP-40. While at VP-40, she additionally qualified as Fleet Instructor Under Training Instructor. She led the Command Services, Safety/NATOPS, and Maintenance Departments. She deployed twice, conducting worldwide patrol and reconnaissance operations while serving as CTG 67.8 Officer in Charge at Incirlik Air Base, Turkey, CTF-72 LNO in Misawa, Japan, and CAOC LNO at Al Udeid Air Base.
CDR Donnelly reported to The Joint Staff, Deputy Directorate for Homeland Defense and Nuclear Operations (J-33) in December 2017 to Operations Team Three. She qualified as a Presidential Strike Advisor and served as the Exercise Branch Chief in the Operations, Training, and Standardization Division.
CDR Donnelly’s personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (First Strike Flight), three Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and various unit and campaign awards. In 2012, she was awarded the CAPT Joy Bright Hancock Junior Officer Award for Inspirational Leadership and was named to Marie Claire Magazine’s “Women on Top” award.
