23 November 2020 A native of Williston, North Dakota, Commander Salveson graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2002, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in General Engineering.  CDR Salveson reported to NAS Pensacola, FL for flight training in November 2002 with subsequent primary flight training at VT-3 NAS Whiting Field, FL.  He earned his Naval Aviator wings in May 2005 at VT-9 NAS Meridian, MS.  CDR Salveson completed his initial fleet training with VFA-122 “Flying Eagles” in the FA-18E/F at NAS Lemoore, CA.

CDR Salveson joined his first operational squadron in February 2006 with the “Tophatters” of VFA-14. He made two deployments aboard USS NIMITZ (CVN 68), participating in Operation IRAQI FREEDOM and Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. 

CDR Salveson reported back to VFA-122 in February 2009 as an Instructor Pilot and Landing Signal Officer.  He then reported to CVW-11 as Air Wing Landing Signal Officer onboard USS NIMITZ in October 2011.  CDR Salveson remained with CVW-11 for his Department Head tour as a member of the “Argonauts” of VFA-147 deploying again aboard USS NIMITZ in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. 

Upon completion of his DH tour, CDR Salveson attended the Naval War College in Newport, RI and earned a M.A. in Defense and Security Studies graduating November 2016.  CDR Salveson completed his Overseas Joint Staff Tour at the NATO School Oberammergau (NSO), Germany in December 2019.  While on staff at NSO he managed the flagship NATO Senior Officer Policy Course and all NSO Mobile Education and Training activities for the Alliance.

CDR Salveson has accumulated over 2,500 flight hours and over 550 carrier arrested landings.  His personal awards are a testament to the dedication and teamwork of his colleagues throughout his Naval Aviation career.
