10 December 2020 Commander Allen “Jed” Jacob is a native of Richmond, Virginia.  He graduated from Virginia Tech University with a Bachelor of Science in Mining and Minerals Engineering in 2004 and was commissioned through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps.  He reported to NAS Pensacola, FL for initial flight training in 2005 and was designated a Naval Aviator in 2007. 
 
His first operational sea tour was with the “Raptors” of HSM-71 in San Diego, CA flying the MH-60R from 2008 to 2011.  He deployed to SEVENTH Fleet with Carrier Air Wing NINE onboard USS PREBLE (DDG 88) and USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN 74).
 
In his first shore duty assignment, CDR Jacob served as a MH-60R Instructor Pilot with the “Airwolves” of HSM-40 at NS Mayport, FL from 2011 to 2014 where he held the position of Commander, Naval Air Force, Atlantic MH-60R NATOPS Evaluator and earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Arizona State University.
 
CDR Jacob completed a second operational sea tour at NAS Oceana, VA flying the MH-60R with CVW-8 staff from 2014 to 2015 where he served as Assistant CVW Operations Officer and deployed to SIXTH and FIFTH Fleets onboard USS GEORGE H. W. BUSH (CVN 77) in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE.  In 2016 he reported to the “BattleCats” of HSM-73 in San Diego, CA where he served as Detachment Two Officer in Charge, Maintenance Officer, and Operations Officer.  He deployed to the THIRD, SEVENTH, and FIFTH Fleets onboard USS HOWARD (DDG 83) and USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71) with CVW-17 in support of Operations INHERENT RESOLVE and FREEDOM’S SENTINEL.  While at HSM-73 he was named Officer of the Year for 2017 and received the 2017 Navy Marine Corps Association Leadership Award from Helicopter Maritime Strike Wing, Pacific.
 
In his second shore duty assignment, CDR Jacob served as Aviation Programs Analyst for the Director, Programming Division (N80) on the staff of the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations, Integration of Capabilities and Resources (N8) from 2018 to 2020.  In November 2020, he reported to the HSM-37 “EasyRiders” as the Executive Officer.
 
CDR Jacob has accumulated over 2,500 flight hours in the MH-60R aircraft.  His personal military awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various unit commendations and campaign awards. 
 
CDR Jacob is married to Jennifer Jacob, and they have two children, Katherine and William.
