28 December 2020 CAPT Mike “Toona” Kinter is a native of San Diego, California. He attended Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, AZ and graduated in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Science. After being designated a Naval Aviator in March 2001, CAPT Kinter reported to the “Shamrocks” of VS-41 for fleet replacement pilot training.  Upon completion, he joined the “Maulers” of VS-32 where he deployed aboard the USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65) in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM (OIF) and Operation ENDURING FREEDOM (OEF).
 
In June of 2006, he checked into VFA-122 for F/A-18E transition. Upon completion he reported to the “Royal Maces” of VFA-27 forward deployed aboard NAF Atsugi, Japan where he conducted multiple deployments aboard USS KITTY HAWK (CV 63) and USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN-73) in support of Western Pacific operations.
 
Returning again to the fleet, CAPT Kinter left Japan for his Department Head tour with the “Rampagers” of VFA-83 based at NAS Oceana, VA where he served as Operations Officer, Maintenance Officer, and completed one Combat deployment aboard USS EISENHOWER (CVN 69) in support of OEF from May to December 2012.
 
After selection for Commander Command, he reported to the “Vigilantes” of VFA-151 in Lemoore, CA as Executive Officer in July 2016.  He took over as Commanding Officer in December 2017 and led the unit through workups and 2018-19 Combat Deployment aboard USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN-74) in support of Operations INHERENT RESOLVE, FREEDOM SENTINEL, and RESOLUTE SUPPORT.  
 
CAPT Kinter reported to PERS-43 in Millington, TN and assumed the duties as CDR TACAIR detailer in June 2019 and subsequently took over as Head Aviation Detailer for PERS-43 in December 2020. He is a graduate of the U.S. Naval War College, earning his Master’s Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies.  He completed a Joint tour assignment to United States Northern Command, where he served as a Joint Maritime Plans Officer and Executive Assistant to the Deputy Commander USNORTHCOM from March 2014 to January 2016.
 
He has accumulated over 3000 total hours and 850 carrier arrested landings.  His awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Strike/Flight Air Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and numerous unit awards and citations.
