Captain Raul Acevedo graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2001, with a Bachelor’s of Science in Computer Science. Following his commission, he began flight training at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida, and was designated as a Naval Flight Officer.
He is a graduate of the United States Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN) and was a Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor at Strike Fighter Weapons School Pacific. His professional education includes Air University at the U.S. Air Force Command and Staff College, Joint Combined Warfighting School at the Joint Forces Staff College, and Federal Executive Fellow at Georgia Institute of Technology’s Nunn School of International Affairs. Trained as a Weapon Systems Officer in the F/A-18F, Captain Acevedo reported to the VFA-154 Black Knights in 2004, and completed a deployment on USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In 2010, he served with the VFA-2 Bounty Hunters, and deployed twice aboard USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) in support of operations Enduring Freedom and New Dawn. In 2012, he served with the VFA-11 Red Rippers, where he deployed on USS Enterprise (CVN 65) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
In 2014 he was on the Joint Staff Operations Directorate (J-35), in Hampton Roads, as an Action Officer for Regional Operations and Force Management. In 2017, He commanded the VFA-211 Fighting Checkmates, and deployed on USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75), in support of Operation Inherent Resolve and Dynamic Force Employment strategic objectives.
Captain Raul Acevedo assumed the duties of Executive Officer of USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) Feb. 11, 2022.
Captain Acevedo has accumulated more than 3,200 flight hours and 700 carrier arrested landings. His decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Strike/Flight Air Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and numerous campaign and service awards.
He is married to the former Aileen Abate of Metairie, LA. They have three children, Raul, Lillian, and Elizabeth.
