Command Master Chief, USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71)

28 December 2020 Master Chief Michael J. Mashburn is a native of Washington. He enlisted in the Navy in October 1990 and attended recruit training at Recruit Training Command, Orlando, Fla.
Following recruit training, he reported to USS Sterett (CG 31) in Subic Bay, Philippines, where he was advanced to Boiler Technician Third Class. Following a homeport change to Naval Station San Diego, he attended Hulll Technician “A” school in Philadelphia, Pa., “C” School in San Diego, Calif., was advanced to Hull Technician Second Class, and was assigned to USS Thatch (FFG 53), Yokosuka Japan.
In 1995, he reported to Trident Refit Facility, Bangor, Wash., where he was assigned as a ship fitter. In 1996 he was assigned to the Master-at-Arms (MA) office and was approved for conversion to Master-at-Arms. In September 1999 he reported to Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas, for MA “A” School.
He reported to USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) in December 1999 where he was advanced to Petty Officer First Class. He volunteered for temporary duty to USS Princeton (CG 59) for the 2001 Vinson Strike Group deployment, and while deployed on September 11, 2001, the Vinson Strike Group was redirected to the coast of Afghanistan to spearhead Operation Enduring Freedom.
His next assignment was USS Ingraham (FFG 61) where he was advanced to Chief Petty Officer and served as Chief Master-at-Arms. He then reported to Afloat Training Group Pacific Northwest and deployed as an individual augmentee as the Senior Enlisted Advisor to Law and Order Taskforce, Multi-National Forces Iraq. He was advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer in 2007.
He then accepted orders to USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71), where he was selected for Master Chief in 2010. His next assignment was to USS Nimitz (CVN 68) and in 2012 he was selected for Command Master Chief. He has served as the Command Master Chief for Navy Recruiting District Denver and Assault Craft Unit 4.
Master Chief Mashburn is currently serving as the Command Master Chief for USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71).
Master Chief Mashburn is a graduate of both the Navy Senior Enlisted Academy class 139 and Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Course, class 12140, Newport, R.I. His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various unit and campaign awards.
