Rear Admiral Carlos Sardiello

27 January 2021 Rear Adm. Carlos Sardiello is a native of Fremont, California, and graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1990. Holding post-graduate degrees in Computer Science and National Security and Strategic Studies, he is a U.S. Navy Test Pilot School graduate of Class 115 and a 2021 MIT Seminar XXI Fellow.
 
Landing on aircraft carriers for the past 28 years, his operational assignments include flying in the S-3B Viking as a junior officer embarked in USS Nimitz (CVN 68) and department head in USS Constellation (CV 64). Transitioning to the P-3C Orion, he served as the 73rd Commanding Officer of Patrol Squadron Four Six (VP 46), the “Grey Knights”.
 
He has completed Forward Deployed Naval Force tours homeported in Japan and Italy, as Executive Officer USS George Washington (CVN 73), Commanding Officer USS Mount Whitney (LCC 20) respectively. He then served as the 15th Commanding Officer of USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71).
 
Logging over 2,800 flight hours and over 500 carrier arrested landings, his combat highlights include scoring the first, and only strike, by an S-3B Viking with an air to ground missile on March 26, 2003.
 
Shore tours also include duty as an S-3B Instructor NFO at VS-41, J-6 action officer on the Joint Staff and Executive Assistant to Commander Naval Air Forces, U.S. Pacific Fleet, and director, Joint and Fleet Operations (N3), U.S. Fleet Forces Command in March 2020. 
 
Rear Adm. Sardiello assumed the duties as commander, Carrier Strike Group One in May 2022.
 
He is a recipient of the Commander Naval Air Forces Leadership Award for 2008.  He is entitled to wear the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal and other personal, unit and service awards.
