16 February 2021 A native of Lafayette, California, Commander Meyer graduated from California Maritime Academy in 2003, earning a Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering. CDR Meyer was commissioned a Second Lieutenant through the Platoon Leaders Program and reported to The Basic School in Quantico, VA, graduating on the Commanding General’s Honor Roll in January 2004.  He reported to NAS Pensacola, FL for flight training in February 2004. He earned his Pilot Wings in March 2006. In April 2006, CDR Meyer reported to the VAQ 129 “Vikings” for initial fleet training as an EA-6B Pilot.  

CDR Meyer began his operational flying in June 2006 with the “Seahawks” of VMAQ 4.  While a “Seahawk”, he made two deployments to Al Asad Air Base, Iraq in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM 06-08 and 09.1.  During this tour CDR Meyer graduated from the Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron ONE (MAWTS 1) Night Vision Goggle Instructor course.

CDR Meyer returned to the “Vikings” of VAQ 129 in June 2010 for duty as an EA-6B Instructor Pilot.  He served as the Aviation Safety Officer, Schedules Officer, Expeditionary Landing Signals Officer, Night Vision Goggles Program Manager, Safety Officer, and Operations Officer.  He was selected as the 2012 Instructor Pilot of the Year.  

In December 2013 CDR Meyer graduated from the United States Naval Test Pilot School in Patuxent River Maryland as part of Class 144. CDR Meyer reported to AIRTEVRON TWO THREE (VX-23), serving as a Project Officer for EA-6B, EA-18G, and F/A-18 projects.  Shortly after transitioning from the United States Marine Corps to the United States Navy in 2015, he graduated from both the US Naval Post Graduate School and the US Marine Corps Command and Staff College earning a Masters of Science in Systems Engineering and Joint Professional Military Education I, in 2015.

In December 2016 CDR Meyer returned to the fleet as a Department Head with the “Wizards” of VAQ 133.  While with the Wizards, he completed his EA-18G ACTC level II, II, and IV qualifications while serving as Safety, Operations, and Maintenance Officer during workups and deployment in support of the seventh fleet AOR. 

In January 2018 CDR Meyer returned to the VAQ 129 “Vikings” as the Training Officer.  He selected for squadron command in March 2019.

CDR Meyer has accumulated over 2,700 flight hours in 29 aircraft and 126 combat missions encompassing more than 580 combat hours.  His awards include the Strike/Flight Air Medal (9 awards), Navy Commendation Medal (4 awards), and Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 awards), and various service awards and ribbons.
