Captain Ryan Jackson

Executive Officer, USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70)

22 October 2020 A native of Carrollton, Texas, Capt. Ryan Jackson graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked as an engineer at Samsung Austin Semiconductor until he joined the Navy in January of 2000 and was commissioned in April of the same year. He was designated a Naval Aviator in April 2002 and reported to Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 122 for initial fleet training as a pilot in the F/A-18E Super Hornet.
He entered the fleet with Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 115, continuing on to serve subsequent tours with the Strike Fighter Weapons School Pacific, Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 137, Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 14, and as a Navy manpower manager at Navy Personnel Command. Additionally, he is a veteran of Operations Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom and New Dawn.
In December 2016, Jackson took command of the Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 195. Under his leadership, VFA-195 earned the 2017 Commander, Naval Air Forces Wade McClusky Award; 2017 Battle Efficiency Award; 2017 “Boola Boola” Award for air-to-air missile effectiveness; two consecutive Carrier Air Wing FIVE “Top Hook” awards; and was nominated as a Navy finalist for the 2017 Secretary of Defense Phoenix Award for maintenance excellence.
Jackson reported as executive officer of USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) in March 2021.
He has accumulated over 3,000 flight hours and 780 carrier arrested landings, including 31 combat missions. His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (2 awards), Strike/Flight Air Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (4 awards), Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various service awards and ribbons. He is a Wing Landing Signal Officer and is a graduate of the Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN), the Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy, and the Navy Nuclear Power Program.
