Captain Winston E. Scott II

Commanding Officer, Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 122

25 October 2020 Captain Scott graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1998, earning a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering. Designated an Aerospace Maintenance Duty Officer, CAPT Scott reported to the Ragin Bulls of VFA-37 at NAS Cecil Field, FL. There he served as the Line Division Officer, the Aircraft Division Officer, the Legal Officer and the Material Control Officer. During that tour, he deployed aboard USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65) and supported Operation DESERT FOX.

After two years with VFA-37, CAPT Scott was selected for training as a Student Naval Aviator and he reported to NAS Pensacola to begin the journey. Earning his Naval Aviator Wings of Gold in August of 2002, he reported to VFA-125 in Lemoore, CA, to train as a replacement pilot in the F/A-18C Hornet.

CDR Scott began his operational flying in October 2003 with VFA-25, "The Fist of the Fleet." While with the Fisties, he deployed aboard USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN 74), and aboard USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76), participating in Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. During this tour, CAPT Scott served as a division officer, NATOPS officer, and Landing Signals Officer.

In October 2006, CAPT Scott reported to the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center (NSAWC) at NAS Fallon, NV, to serve as an Air Wing Training Instructor. During his time at NSAWC, he graduated from the Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN) Adversary course. He continue to fly the F/A-18 and also accrued flight time in the F-16 Fighting Falcon

In November of 2008, CAPT Scott was again assigned to VFA-25 in Lemoore for his department head tour. He served as the Maintenance Officer and Operations Officer, and deployed aboard USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76). During that deployment, he flew numerous missions in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

Following his department head tour, CAPT Scott served as a Strike-Fighter assignments officer (detailer) at the Navy Personnel Command in Millington, TN, from November 2010 to October 2012. Immediately following that tour, he fulfilled his joint duty requirement at U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) located at MacDill AFB, FL. 

With his joint tour complete, CAPT Scott was selected for aviation operational command, and reported once again to VFA-25 in May 2015. During his time as Executive and Commanding Officer of the Fist of the Fleet, he deployed aboard the USS Harry S. Truman, flying combat sorties in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE

Finishing his command tour with VFA-25 in August 2017, CAPT Scott then reported to the Navy Office of Legislative Affairs in the Pentagon as the Aviation Portfolio manager.

CAPT Scott has accumulated over 3,000 flight hours in 5 different aircraft and over 500 carrier arrested landings. He has flown missions in support of three different campaigns totaling over 80 combat sorties in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan. His awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Strike/Flight Air Medal (4 awards), Navy Commendation Medal (3 awards), Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 awards) and various other service awards.
