Command Master Chief, Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 142

26 October 2020 Command Master Chief Chris Armantrout is a native of Bakersfield, California and reported to Recruit Training Command Great Lakes in February 1998. After completing Basic Enlisted Submarine School and Electronics Technician “A” School in Groton, Connecticut, he reported to his first duty assignment onboard USS RHODE ISLAND (SSBN 740 Blue) in Kings Bay, Georgia. During this tour, he qualified in submarines and completed several strategic deployments.
 
In January of 2003, he reported to Deep Submergence Unit (DSU) Detachment Unmanned Vehicles, San Diego California where he participated in several operations including a Navy F14D recovery, rescue of the Russian submersible AS-28 Priz. His next assignment was Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle MYSTIC (DSRV 1) from 2005 to 2008. In 2009, Master Chief Armantrout reported to Submarine Development Squadron FIVE Detachment Undersea Research and Development in Bangor, Washington. There he was promoted to Chief Petty Officer and deployed onboard USS JIMMY CARTER (SSN 23), completing two missions vital to national security. In 2012 he transferred to BUPERS SDC Pt Mugu, where he earned his Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist and Enlisted Information Warfare Specialist. In 2015 he was selected for Senior Chief Petty Officer, and then reported to Naval Research Laboratory and Naval Surface Warfare Center Port Hueneme.
 
Master Chief Armantrout reported to Commander Submarine Force Atlantic in December 2016, where he later volunteered to forward deploy as Individual Augmentee (IA) assigned to the CENTCOM Area of Operations. Upon return from his IA tour in 2018 he became the COMSUBLANT C4I Department Senior Enlisted Advisor and in May 2019 he advanced to Master Chief Petty Officer. He was selected into the Command Senior Enlisted program in February of 2020 and in July reported to the Gray Wolves of VAQ-142.
 
Command Master Chief Armantrout is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy class 202 Red and holds an Associate of Science degree in Electronics and is authorized to wear the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (six awards), and various unit and campaign citations.
