Commander M. Trever Plageman

03 November 2020 CDR Michael Trever “Bubonic” Plageman was born in Zwolle, Netherlands and raised in Richmond, Virginia. Plageman enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1994, graduating with honors from Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC. He received a Bachelor of Science in Urban Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2000.

Plageman graduated from Marine Corps Officer Candidate School (OCS) in 2001 but later received his commission as a Naval Officer through Navy OCS in 2002. He was designated a Naval Flight Officer (NFO), earning his “Wings of Gold” in May 2004, graduating with distinction from primary flight training at Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola, Florida and Joint Student Undergraduate Navigation Training, Randolph Air Force Base, Texas.

Following initial training in the P-3C Orion, Plageman was assigned to the “World Famous Red Lancers” of VP-10 located at the former NAS Brunswick, Maine in September of 2004 where he obtained his initial fleet qualifications as Tactical Coordinator. His leadership opportunities outside the aircraft included Readiness Officer, Aircraft Division Officer, and NFO Training Officer. As a Red Lancer he flew in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM -PHILIPPINES, as well as various other 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th Fleet missions.

Plageman reported to Commander Task Force (CTF) 67 in Sigonella, Sicily, in June 2008. While aboard he served as staff Weapons and Tactics Instructor, Battle Watch Captain, Current Operations Officer, Assistant Future Operations Officer, and CTF-67 Liaison Naval Officer (LNO) to CTF-69, Commander U.S. Sixth Fleet, and Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa (HOA) while in support of multiple NATO and U.S. operations including Operation ACTIVE ENDEAVOR, ENDURING FREEDOM-HOA, and ODYSSEY DAWN.

In September 2011 Plageman reported to the USS HARRY S. TRUMAN (CVN-75) in Norfolk, Virginia to “Give ‘em Hell!”. While aboard he served as the Assistant Navigator and qualified as Officer of the Deck-Underway. During his tour HST earned the 2013 Commander Naval Air Forces Atlantic Battle “E” Award.

Plageman reported to VP-1 on NAS Whidbey Island, Washington for his Department Head tour in October 2013. While aboard VP-1, he served as Administrative, Assistant Training, Future Operations, and Operations Officer. As a Screaming Eagle he flew missions in support of various 3rd and 7th Fleet exercises or operations and served as LNO to CTF-72 in Misawa, Japan, CTG Operations Officer and multiple detachment(s) Officer in Charge. During his tour the Screaming Eagles earned the 2015 Commander Naval Air Forces Battle “E” Award.

His most recent assignment was serving as Lead Exercise Planner in the Maritime and Combined Exercises Branch (J37), and as Executive Officer to the Operations Director, J3, United States Africa Command in Stuttgart, Germany from July 2016 to August 2018.

Following transition training on the P-8A Poseidon, Plageman reported to VP-47 in June of 2019.
