Commander Christopher M. Carreon

Commander Chris "Chunk" Carreon is a native of Phoenix, Arizona. He was commissioned through OCS following his graduation from Arizona State University in 2002 with a Bachelor's of Science in Aeronautical Engineering Technology. Commander Carreon earned his wings as a Naval Aviator in December 2003. He began training on the H-60 Knighthawk at Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron THREE (HSC-3) in San Diego, CA.

Commander Carreon's first operational flying tour was with the Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron TWO-FIVE (HSC-25) "Island Knights" based on Guam. While stationed there, he deployed in 2005 with Detachment SIX on the USS ESSEX (LHD-2) supporting the Amphibious Readiness Group in 7th Fleet. In 2007, he deployed to Kuwait with the Naval Air Ambulance Detachment (NAAD 2515th) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Following his tour at HSC-25, Commander Carreon returned to HSC-3 for training in the MH-60S and designation as an Instructor Pilot. While at HSC-3, he served as a Search and Rescue Evaluator and the squadron's NATOPS Officer. He received his Executive Master in Business Administration degree from the Naval Postgraduate School.

In October 2011, he reported to the pre-commissioned ship, USS SAN DIEGO (LPD-22), where he held the positions of Fuels Officer, Mini Boss and Air Boss. He also earned his Fleet Officer of the Deck (OOD) qualification.

In 2013, Commander Carreon retrained in the MH-60 Knighthawk and reported to the "Red Lions" of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron FIFTEEN (HSC-15) for his Department Head tour serving as the Safety, Training, Maintenance, and Operations Officer. He deployed in May 2014 on USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) and USNS Rainier (T-AOE-7) in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. Following the deployment, he led the squadron's disestablishment.

After his Department Head tour, he reported to Lockheed Martin Missile and Fire Control in Orlando, Florida for the Secretary of the Navy Tours with Industry (SNTWI) Program. He worked on the Long Range Anti-Ship Missile (LRASM) program while understanding how a civilian corporation operates and bringing that knowledge to the US Navy. He reported in October 2018 to HSC-25 as the Executive Officer. In November 2019, CDR Carreon assumed command of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron TWO FIVE (HSC-25).

CDR Carreon has accumulated over 2,300 flight hours in the MH-60S Knighthawk and other training aircraft. His decorations include the Air Medal (2 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4 awards), Navy Achievement Medal (2 awards), and various unit and service awards.
