Commander Nicholas Engle
Executive Officer, Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 6
A native of Clinton, New York, Commander Engle graduated with merit from the United States Naval Academy in May of 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Economics. He holds a Master of Business Administration from UCLA Anderson School of Management. Designated as a Naval Aviator in January of 2012, he reported to the “Fleet Angels” of HSC-2 for initial fleet training in the MH-60S Seahawk.
His operational assignments include serving with the “Dragon Whales” of HSC-28, and the “Blackjacks” of HSC-21. He completed two deployments with HSC-28 Detachment ONE supporting FIFTH and SIXTH Fleet tasking. Additionally, he deployed as Officer-In-Charge of HSC-21 Detachment ONE onboard USS ESSEX (LHD 2), where he had previously served as the “Miniboss,” supporting Operation INHERENT RESOLVE.
Commander Engle completed his first shore assignment with the “Merlins” of HSC-3, an MH-60S Fleet replacement squadron, where he was designated as an instructor pilot. In August of 2022, he reported to the Naval Aviation Warfighting Development Center (NAWDC), where he served as a member of NAWDC Integration (DAUNTLESS) in support of U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, U.S. Pacific Fleet, and Joint initiatives concerning Great Power Competition. During his tour at NAWDC, he graduated from the SEAWOLF Weapons School, was designated a Seahawk Weapons and Tactics Instructor, and completed an additional assignment as the Assistant Department Head of the Navy Rotary Wing Weapons School (SEAWOLF).
Commander Engle reported to HSC-6 as the Executive Officer in June of 2025. He has accumulated over 2000 flight hours in the MH-60S and various other aircraft. His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (three awards), Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal, along with various unit and service awards/ribbons.
