Commander Michael Feagans

Hailing from Grass Valley California, Commander Mike Feagans commissioned in 2006 from the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering. He began flight training in Pensacola, Florida in the fall of 2006 completing primary flight training in Corpus Christi Texas and advanced flight training in Kingsville Texas. After earning his “wings of gold”, he completed training in the F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet with the “Experts” of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 122 onboard Naval Air Station (NAS) Lemoore, California in 2009.

His first sea tour was with the “Black Knights” of VFA-154 where he deployed on the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) in 2011 in support of Operations TOMODACHI, NEW DAWN, and ENDURING FREEDOM.  During this tour he qualified as a Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC), Forward Air Controller (Airborne) (FAC(A)), and Mission Commander.

After his initial operational tour, he was selected to attend TOPGUN and graduated as a strike fighter tactics instructor serving with Strike Fighter Weapons School Pacific (SFWSP) in NAS Lemoore, California.  While attached to SFWSP, he was the west coast’s subject matter expert on F/A-18 maritime employment.  He culminated the tour as the weapons school training officer branch head and was selected as a training officer for VFA-154.

Upon selection for department head, he remained attached to the “Black Knights” of VFA-154 where he served as the quality assurance officer, assistant operations officer, maintenance officer, and operations officer. During this tour, he deployed aboard the USS Nimitz (CVN 68) in 2017 in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.  As a department head, he qualified as an Air Wing Strike Lead and Air Interdiction Mission Commander.

Post department head, he reported to the PERS-43 division of NAVPERSCOM in Millington, Tennessee in 2019 for shore duty.  While at PERS-43, he was the VFA junior officer and lieutenant commander detailer in addition to serving on numerous support roles for administrative selection boards.
CDR Feagans has accumulated over 2,100 flight hours in the FA-18E/F.  His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Strike/Flight Air Medal (2 awards), Navy Commendation Medal (4 awards), Navy Achievement Medal, and various unit, and campaign awards.
