Commander Daniel Krause
Commanding Officer, Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 86

A native of Snohomish, Washington, Commander Krause graduated from Western Washington University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pre-Physical Therapy in 2001. CDR Krause was commissioned through Officer Candidate School in November of 2003 at NAS Pensacola, FL and immediately began flight training. Earning his Naval Aviator Wings of Gold in February of 2006, he reported to NAS Oceana, VA and the “Gladiators” of VFA-106 for Fleet Replacement training in the F/A-18C Hornet.
Upon successful completion of the FRS in October 2007, CDR Krause reported to the “Sunliners” of VFA-81 with whom he deployed onboard USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) in support of a Western Pacific deployment in 2008 and onboard USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70) in support of Operation UNIFIED RESPONSE and Operation ENDURING FREEDOM in 2010-2011.
In March 2011, he was ordered to instructor duty with VFA-106 in the F/A-18A-F, serving as the NATOPS Officer, Intelligence Officer and Strike Phase Head. During this assignment, CDR Krause was selected as the 2013 VFA-106 Instructor of the Year.
Following his instructor tour, CDR Krause attended the Naval Postgraduate School from 2013-2014, where he graduated with distinction while earning a Master of Arts in Management (Financial Management). During this assignment, CDR Krause also attended the Naval War College Monterey, graduating with highest distinction.
In December 2014, CDR Krause reported to the “Vigilantes” of VFA-151 for his department head tour, where he served as Administration Officer, Safety Officer, Maintenance Officer and Operations Officer. While assigned to the “Vigis” he participated in a 2016 Western Pacific deployment and RIM OF THE PACIFIC Exercise onboard USS JOHN C STENNIS (CVN 74).
Upon completion of his department head tour, CDR Krause reported to NORAD, Western Air Defense Sector in November 2017 as a Joint Operations Staff Officer at McChord AFB, WA. During this assignment, he served in Operation NOBLE EAGLE, ensuring air sovereignty, strategic air defense and airborne counter-drug operations for the continental United States. He selected for aviation squadron command in March 2018 and is scheduled to report to the “Sidewinders” of VFA-86 as Executive Officer in June 2021.
CDR Krause has accumulated over 2,300 flight hours and 420 carrier arrested landings. CDR Krause’s awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (2), Navy Achievement Medal (3) and various other unit and campaign awards.
