A native of South River, New Jersey, Commander Farkas graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2009, earning a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering. In August 2009, he reported to flight school and earned his Naval Aviator Wings in Meridian, MS in February of 2012. Commander Farkas then reported to NAS Oceana, VA, for initial training in the F/A-18E Super Hornet with the GLADIATORS of Strike Fighter Squadron ONE ZERO SIX.
He began his operational career in December 2012 as a KNIGHTHAWK with Strike Fighter Squadron ONE THREE SIX. As a KNIGHTHAWK, he made one deployment to the CENTCOM AOR aboard USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71), flying combat missions in support of coalition ground forces during Operation INHERENT RESOLVE.
After this tour, Commander Farkas joined the VAMPIRES of Air Test & Evaluation Squadron NINE aboard NAWS China Lake, CA serving as an Operational Test Director, Administration Departement Head, and F/A-18A-F and E/A-18G NATOPS Officer. Additionally, he supported the operational testing of the software configuration set H14 and AGM-158 Long Range Anti-Ship Missile (LRASM).
Commander Farkas was assigned to Forward Deployed Naval Forces in 2018, joining the ROYAL MACES of Strike Fighter Squadron TWO SEVEN as their Quality Assurance Officer. During his tour, the ROYAL MACES participated in exercises VALIANT SHIELD 2018 and TALISMAN SABRE 2019 over two deployments in support of Commander, SEVENTH FLEET AOR and U.S. INDO-PACOM strategic objectives.
Executing back-to-back sea tours, he was relocated to NAS Lemoore, CA, to become a FIST OF THE FLEET Department Head with Strike Fighter Squadron TWO FIVE (VFA-25). During his time at VFA-25, he served as Safety Officer, Maintenance Officer, and Operations Officer. As Maintenance Officer of VFA-25, he accepted the Naval Aviation Enterprise’s first operational F/A-18E Block III Super Hornets, highlighting their capabilities to the Joint Force during RED FLAG AK 2022, paving the way for future Block III squadrons.
Commander Farkas executed a second Department Head tour in 2022, serving as Operations Officer for the FLYING EAGLES of Strike Fighter Squadron ONE TWO TWO, the West Coast F/A-18E/F Fleet Replacement Squadron. As Operations Officer, he oversaw 204 students in training and patched 119 replacement aircrew to the fleet.
Commander Farkas was selected for operational command in March 2023 and reported as Executive Officer to the BLUE DIAMONDS of Strike Fighter Squadron ONE FOUR SIX in August 2024.
Commander Farkas' service and dedication to his duties led to the accumulation of over 2,300 flight hours and 500 carrier-arrested landings. His outstanding performance has been recognized with the Strike/Flight Air Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and numerous service awards and decorations.
