Commander Sergio A. Armas
Executive Officer, Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 129

A native of California, Commander Armas graduated from the Unites States Naval Academy in 2004 where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He was commissioned in May 2004 and designated as a Naval Aviator in July 2006.
Following initial training in the EA-6B Prowler, CDR Armas reported to the "Gauntlets" of VAQ-136 stationed at NAF Atsugi, Japan and deployed on WESTPAC Patrols on both the USS KITTY HAWK (CV 63) and USS George Washington (CVN 73). In 2012, CDR Armas transitioned to the EA-18 Growler while on instructor duty at VAQ-129.
In July 2013 CDR Armas joined the “Shoguns” of CVW-9 as CAG LSO serving aboard the USS STENNIS (CVN 74) and flew with the "Wizards" of VAQ-133. In August 2015, he returned to the “Gauntlets” as a Department Head, this time flying the Growler in CONUS and executed a Southern Seas deployment aboard the USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73) and a WESTPAC deployment aboard the USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70). In 2018, CDR Armas attended Naval War College in Newport, RI where he earned a Master of Arts in Defense and Strategic Studies. In April 2019, CDR Armas moved back to the Pacific Northwest and began refresher training in the EA-18G with VAQ-129 to serve in a post Department Head position and eventually as the Executive Officer of VAQ-129.
CDR Armas has accumulated over 2,700 flight hours, primarily in the EA-6B and EA-18G. His decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various unit, service, and campaign awards.
