Command Master William L. Greene III

Master Chief Greene was born in Jasper, TX.  He graduated from Jasper High School in 1996 and entered the U.S. Navy the following year.  After graduating from Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes he attended Aviation Warfare Systems Operator “A” School in Pensacola, Florida.  His first duty station was Naval Air Station North Island, Sea Control Squadron Four One where he earned his Enlisted Aircrew Wings.

Sea duty assignments include:  In 1999 he completed a Rating Conversion to Fire Control Technician and attended Basic Enlisted Submarine School and Fire Control Technician “A” School then reporting to USS Columbus (SSN 762) in November of 1999 where he completed three Western Pacific deployments.  In 2004 he transferred to USS Ohio (SSGN 726) which converted from SSBN to SSGN and was selected for Chief Petty Officer in 2005.  In 2007 he reported to USS Columbia (SSN 771) and completed one Western Pacific deployment and was selected for Senior Chief Petty Officer in 2009.  In 2013 he was assigned as Chief of the Boat aboard the Guam-based, forward deployed, guided missile submarine, USS Ohio (SSGN 726), where he completed two Western Pacific deployments and the crew earned the CSS-19 Battle Efficiency “E” award.  He was selected for Master Chief Petty Officer in 2014.  In 2016 Greene was selected for the Command Master Chief program and reported to USS Emory S Land as Command Master Chief where he completed two Western Pacific deployments and the crew earned the COMSUBPAC Battle Efficiency “E” award. In 2019 he reported to Naval Research Laboratory Site Detachment as Command Master Chief and in 2022 was selected to serve as Command Master Chief at VAW-115 Liberty Bells.

Shore duty assignments include:  COMSUBPAC TRE Team from 2010 to 2013 where he completed Chief of the Boat qualifications.

Master Chief Greene is a graduate of the MCPON’s Executive Leadership Symposium and certificated instrument pilot.  He is entitled to wear the Meritorious Service Medal (3 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards), Enlisted Surface Warfare Insignia, Enlisted Submarine Insignia, Enlisted Naval Aircrew Wings.
