Commander Jacob A. Norgaard

Commander Jake Norgaard is a native of Chesterton, IN.  He earned his commission in 2008 through the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree in Ocean Engineering.  He also earned a Master of Business Administration from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business.  Designated a Naval Aviator in July 2010, he reported to HSM-41 for MH-60R Fleet Replacement training.
 
At sea, Commander Norgaard served with the “Saberhawks” of HSM-77 where he deployed aboard USS MOMSEN (DDG 91) and USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN-72) as part of Carrier Strike Group NINE, supporting Operations IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM. Upon returning to San Diego, Commander Norgaard helped homeport shift the “Saberhawks” from NAS North Island to NAF Atsugi, Japan. While part of FDNF, he conducted two patrols aboard the USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN-73) in the 7th Fleet Area of Responsibility (AOR).  In 2017 he reported to Carrier Strike Group Nine, serving as Flag Aide to the Commander during a deployment to the 5th Fleet Area of Responsibility.  In 2019 he reported to the “Wolfpack” of HSM-75 for his department head tour. There he served as Officer-in-Charge of Combat Element ONE, embarked onboard USS BUNKER HILL (CG-52), and Maintenance Officer.  While at HSM-75, he twice deployed to the 7th Fleet AOR with Carrier Air Wing ELEVEN (CVW-11) as part of the THEODORE ROOSEVELT Strike Group.  The Wolfpack Maintenance Department earned the Golden Wrench award for 2021. CDR Norgaard was recognized as the 2021 HSM-75 Officer of the Year, 2021 CVW-11 Peer Leader of the Year, and the 2021 HSMWP Officer of the Year.
 
CDR Norgaard’s shore assignments include a tour with the Pioneers of VX-1 from 2014 through 2017 as the Operational Test Director for the MH-60R and the Assistant Operational Test Director for the MH-60S Organic Airborne Mine Countermeasure Mission Package (OAMCM), coordinating efforts to develop the airborne component of the Littoral Combat Ship Mine Package.  Following his Department Head tour, he reported to the Joint Chiefs of Staff J-5 at the Pentagon. While there he headed up Joint Staff efforts for execution of the Secretary of Defense’s Electromagnetic Spectrum Superiority Strategy Implementation Plan and as the Deputy Executive Assistant to the Director Strategy, Plans and Policy (J-5).
 
Commander Norgaard reported to the “Seahawks” of HSM-41 as Executive Officer in August 2023.
 
Commander Norgaard is a graduate of the Naval School of Aviation Safety.  He has accumulated over 2,000 flight hours in military aircraft.  His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various unit, campaign, and service awards.
