Commander Justin Waskey

Commander Justin “Mistrap” Waskey is a native of Louisville, Kentucky and attended the United States Naval Academy.  He was commissioned in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in Economics and played Navy Men’s Soccer.  He also holds an Executive Masters of Business Administration from the Naval Post Graduate School.  Upon completion of flight training in 2010, he was designated a Naval Aviator and reported to the HSL-40 “Airwolves” for flight training in the SH-60B.
CDR Waskey’s sea tours include HSL/HSM-46 “Grandmasters” where he deployed to the Arabian Gulf aboard USS VICKSBURG (CG 69) and to the Mediterranean Sea and Horn of Africa aboard USS DE WERT (FFG 45); USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71) where he served as the Assistant Navigator (ANAV) and deployed to the Arabian Gulf; and HSM-73 “Battlecats” where he served as squadron Maintenance Officer and deployed to FIFTH FLEET with Carrier Air Wing SEVENTEEN aboard USS NIMITZ (CVN 68).  During his sea tours, he was recognized as the Theodore Roosevelt Association Junior Officer Leadership Award winner and HSM-73 Maintenance Officer of the Year.
CDR Waskey’s shore tours include instructor pilot at HSM-41 “Seahawks”, the MH-60R Fleet Replacement Squadron in San Diego, CA, where he served as Commander, Naval Air Forces MH-60R Program Manager and NATOPS Evaluator; and PERS-43 at Naval Personnel Command, where he served as the Helicopter Shore Tour Assignments Officer and Graduate Education Officer.  During his instructor tour, he was selected as the HSM-41 Instructor Pilot of the Year, Helicopter Maritime Strike Wing Pacific Pilot of the Year, and United States Navy Exceptional Pilot of the Year.
Commander Waskey has accumulated over 2,500 flight hours in various naval aircraft.  His personal decorations include the Air Medal (Gold Numeral One), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards), and various unit and campaign awards.  He is happily married to his wife Stephanie.  Together they have two daughters – Abigail and Ava.
