A native of Freeland, MI, Commander Clint “Twitter” Turner enlisted in the Navy in 2000 from Bradenton, FL. In 2001, he reported for Electronic Warfare Operator (EWOP) training pipeline. After completion of training, he was assigned to the “Wizards” of Special Projects Patrol Squadron Two (VPU-2) where he earned his Naval Aircrew Wings and completed several deployments to Fifth and Seventh Fleet in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM and Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. Selected for the Seaman to Admiral Program, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Political Science and received a commission from The University of Kansas Naval ROTC program in 2006. After flight training in the T-6 “Texan II,” CDR Turner reported to the VQ-7 “Roughnecks” for initial fleet training as an E-6B “Mercury” Combat Systems Officer and earning his Naval Flight Officer Wings in April 2009. His commissioned operational flying began in 2009 with the “Shadows” of VQ-4. While a “Shadow” he made multiple detachments, participating in Joint Chiefs of Staff, USSTRATCOM, and EUCOM exercises. During his tour, CDR Turner served as Operations Flight Officer and earned selection as VQ-4’s NFO of the Year for 2012. He then reported to the SCW-1 Fleet Introduction Team in June 2012, directly supporting several new capability deliveries to the “Mercury” and fleet differences training. He again reported to VQ-7 in 2013 as a Fleet Replacement Instructor serving as NATOPS Department Head and E-6B NFO NATOPS Evaluator. Detached for his disassociated tour in 2015, he served aboard USS Roosevelt (CVN 71) and “America’s Favorite Carrier” USS Carl Vinson (CVN70) as Tactical Action Officer (TAO), with deployments supporting Operation INHERENT RESOLVE and RIMPAC 2017. Returning to the fleet in May 2017 he served on SCW-1 staff, followed by Operational Department Head tour in 2018 with the “Ironmen” of VQ-3. While with the Ironmen he participated in multiple Joint Chiefs of Staff, USSTRATCOM, and EUCOM exercises serving as the Communications Officer and Operations Officer. Following his department head tour, he reported to Commander, Naval Strategic Forces (NAVSTRAT) in 2021 where he served as a large staff action officer. He selected for operational command in March 2022, and served as the SCW-1 Deputy for Communications while waiting to report as the VQ-4 Executive Officer. In May 2024, he assumed the role of VQ-4 Executive Officer. CDR Turner has accumulated over 2,700 flight hours in three aircraft. His awards include Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5 awards), Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal (6 awards) and various service awards and ribbons.
