Command Master Chief Danal J. Shaffer

Master Chief Shaffer, a native of Moreno Valley, California enlisted in Feb 1997 and attended Recruit Training in Great lakes IL. After completion of Basic Enlisted Submarine School and ET ‘A’ school in Groton, CT, he reported aboard USS NARWHAL (SSN 671), Where he was assigned to the IC Division. While onboard he earned his Silver Dolphins, completed a Mediterranean Deployment and was advanced to Third Class Petty Officer.
 
In April 1999, after decommissioning USS NARWHAL (SSN 671), he transferred to USS NORFOLK (SSN 714) where he completed half of a Mediterranean Deployment. In May of 2000 he transferred to NAVSUBSCOL for the Navigation Maintenance pipeline, after which he was advanced to Second Class Petty Officer. Upon completion of ‘C’ school in March 2001 he reported aboard USS SAN FRANCISCO (SSN 711). He was selected as Junior Sailor of the Quarter and completed an Inter-fleet transfer from Norfolk, VA to Agana, Guam and was later advanced to First Class Petty Officer.
 
In May 2003 he reported to the SIMA, Norfolk VA where he assumed the duties as Mast and Antenna Shop LPO. While attached he completed Quality Assurance Supervisor and Quality Assurance Inspector qualifications. In January 2006 he reported to NAVSUBSCOL for training in Virginia Class Navigation Maintenance and LAN Administration. In October 2006 he reported to the USS NORTH CAROLINA (SSN 777) as a LAN Administrator, shortly after reporting he was assigned temporarily to USS RHODE ISLAND (SSBN 740)(B) where he completed One Strategic Deterrent Patrol and was advanced to Chief Petty Officer. Upon returning to USS NORTH CAROLINA (SSN 777) he was reassigned as the 1st Lieutenant where he completed the salvage inspection and post commissioning inspections.  
 
In May 2008 he reported to USS GREENEVILLE (SSN 772) as the Assistant Navigator and Navigation Department Enlisted Advisor where he completed an Electronic Navigation Cetification, an inter-fleet transfer from Kittery, ME to Pearl Harbor, HI and completed a Western Pacific Deployment. In March 2011 he transferred to Naval Submarine Support Command, Pearl Harbor, where he served as the Operations Supervisor and was advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer.
 
Master Chief Shaffer reported aboard USS CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI (SSN 705) in May 2014 as the Assistant Navigator and  Navigation Department  Enlisted Advisor.  In May 2016 he transferred to PEARL HARBOR NAVAL SHIPYARD as a Fleet Technical expert. In April 2018 he relieved as the Chief of the Boat onboard USS ALEXANDRIA (SSN 757). In June 2021 he relieved as Command Master Chief of Patrol and Reconnaissance Squadron Four Seven (VP-47). He is a graduate of the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 207) and the CMC/COB school (Class 183). 
 
His awards include Navy Commendation Medal (5 awards) the Navy Achievement Medal (7 awards), and numerous campaign and unit citations.  He currently resides in Oak Harbor, Washington with his wife Gina and their five children, Veronica, Raymond, Amber, Micah and Kalina.
