​Comman​der Nicholas J. Peranteau

A Native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Commander Peranteau was commissioned through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Program at Pennsylvania State University in 2008, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Finance. CDR Peranteau earned his Pilot Wings in May 2010 and reported to VP-30 in August 2010 to begin training in the P-3C. CDR Peranteau began his operational flying in 2011 with the “World Watchers” of VQ-1 at NAS Whidbey Island. While a “World Watcher”, he deployed in the EP-3E multiples times to CENTCOM, AFRICOM, EUCOM, and SOUTHCOM, including participating in Operations NEW DAWN and ENDURING FREEDOM.

During this tour CDR Peranteau qualified as a Mission Commander and Instructor Pilot, finishing his tour as the squadron’s Aviation Safety Officer and Assistant Training Officer. CDR Peranteau reported to VT-2 in Milton, Florida in 2014 to begin his tour as a T-6B Instructor Pilot. During his three-year tour, he flew over 700 training sorties instructing Student Naval Aviators in Contacts, Aerobatics, Instruments, and Formation flying. Within the squadron, he served as the Legal Officer and the NATOPS Officer.

Additionally, he qualified as a Standardization Instructor, Out of Control Flight Instructor, and Flight Instructor Training Unit Instructor. During this time, he completed a Master’s degree in Economics from Johns Hopkins University. CDR Peranteau then reported to the “Wizards” of VPU-2 at Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii and returned to flying the P-3C in 2017. While there he served as an Aircraft Commander and Mission Commander, as well as the Legal Officer and Assistant Operations Officer. At the end of his tour, CDR Peranteau transitioned to the Navy Reserves as a Selected Reservist. CDR Peranteau then returned to NAS Whidbey Island, reporting to the “Totems” of VP-69 in 2019. With the Totems, he supported two deployments in support of Commander Task Force 72, ultimately serving as PPC while onboard AFB Kadena. Additionally, he supported both RIMPAC and Resolute Hunter exercises. Within the squadron, CDR Peranteau has served as the Operations Officer and Training Department Head. During this time, he completed his JPME-I through the Air Force Air Command and Staff College. CDR Peranteau has accumulated over 3,700 flight hours, including 101 combat missions. His awards include the Strike/Flight Air Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal and various service and unit awards and ribbons.
