​Captain Matthew Martin

Captain Matthew “Moto” Martin is a native of Manheim, Pennsylvania.  He graduated from the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Ocean Engineering and was commissioned an Ensign in May 2002.   He completed his flight training in Pensacola, FL and Corpus Christi, TX and was designated a Naval Aviator in January 2004 .
 
Captain Martin began his naval career with two consecutive sea duty tours in San Diego, CA.  His initial operational flying tour was completed in the SH-60B with the HSL FORTY FIVE “Wolfpack.”  During his time at HSL FORTY FIVE he deployed to the FIFTH and SEVENTH fleet areas of operation in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM (OEF) and IRAQI FREEDOM (OIF) aboard the USS LAKE CHAMPLAIN (CG 57) and USS BUNKER HILL (CG 52).  CAPT Martin then transferred to the HSM SEVENTY ONE “Raptors” from May 2008 to March 2010.  He served as Detachment Three Maintenance Officer aboard USS KIDD (DDG 100) and the Quality Assurance Officer aboard USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN 74) for the Raptors’ squadron stand-up and the inaugural MH-60R WESTPAC deployment.  While at HSM SEVENTY ONE he was named CHSMWP's Pilot of the Year (2009).
 
CAPT Martin returned to the HSM SEVENTY ONE “Raptors” for his Department Head tour.  He again deployed to FIFTH fleet as part of Carrier Air Wing NINE and Carrier Strike Group THREE, aboard USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN 74) in support of OEF operations from February 2013 to June 2015.
 
In July 2019, CAPT Martin reported as the Executive Officer of the HSM THREE SEVEN “Easyriders” onboard Marine Corps Base Hawaii.  He served as the Commanding Officer from November 2020-March 2022, deploying MH-60R detachments to the THIRD, FOURTH, FIFTH and SEVENTH fleet AORs.  He was awarded the 2021 Rear Admiral Tomaszeski Squadron Commanding Officer Leadership Award.
 
CAPT Martin’s shore duty assignments include: graduating from Naval Postgraduate School in June 2012; and the Navy Personnel Command in Millington, TN from June 2015 to October 2017.
 
CAPT Martin has accumulated more than 2,000 flight hours in the MH-60R and SH-60B.  His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (four awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various unit commendations and service/campaign awards.  He is married to Lori Martin and has two sons, Brady (15) and Cooper (13).
